Cher was very serious when she vowed to leave the United States if Donald Trump was re-elected.
However, she has seemingly had to reconsider her stance because of her stable relationship with 38-year-old boyfriend Alexander "AE" Edwards.
Cher has previously weighed in on the 40-year age gap between her and Edwards, saying that it isn't an issue.
Why Cher Won't Leave The U.S. Despite Donald Trump's Election Victory
Cher had initially vowed to flee the country if the billionaire politician was re-elected for a second term after he first led the country from 2016 to 2020.
The singer claimed that Trump's presidency took a toll on her health, and as a result, she was looking to avoid reprisal.
"I almost got an ulcer the last time," she told The Guardian. "If he gets in, who knows? This time, I will leave."
However, sources have now disclosed that the "Believe" singer has decided to remain in the country as she is "so committed" to her boyfriend Edwards and does not want to separate him from his young son.
"She did intend to leave the United States if Donald Trump got elected, but things are different now than they were one year ago," a source told the Daily Mail. "She gave that interview before she was so committed."
The Singer Doesn't Want To Come Between Alexander 'AE' Edwards And His Son
The insider went on to reveal that Cher would have made good on her vow to leave the country but realized that would have put her boyfriend in a tough position,
Edwards continues to co-parent his 5-year-old son, Slash, whom he shares with his ex-girlfriend Amber Rose, a vocal Trump supporter.
"They have their life together here, and they're making an album," the source added. "They both have family and children. She's infuriated by the outcome, but she also knows that running will not solve anything."
At 78, Cher is mother to sons, 55-year-old Chaz Bono and 45-year-old Elijah Blue Allman, who all reside in the U.S.
Cher Is Not Bothered By The Age Gap Between Her And Her Boyfriend
Despite the 4-decade age gap between the lovebirds, their relationship has seemingly blossomed well.
Cher confirmed their romance on Twitter on November 6, 2022, when she posted a photo of Edwards and a red heart emoji.
During an interview on "The Kelly Clarkson Show," the singer mentioned that the difference in age doesn't mean anything to her.
"Well, on paper, it's kind of ridiculous," she admitted, per the Daily Mail, adding, "but in real life, we get along great. He's fabulous, and I don't give men qualities that they don't deserve."
Back in 2022, she was asked by a fan on X if Edwards was her "new man?" and she replied, saying, "Love doesn't know math."
"I'm not defending us. Haters are gonna hate... Doesn't matter that we're happy and not bothering anyone," she tweeted at the time, adding that she "don't give a [airplane emoji to signify the word flying] f-ck what anyone thinks."
She Has A New Memoir Underway
The legendary singer recently announced that she'll be releasing the first part of her two-part memoir, "Cher: The Memoir, Part One, on November 19.
She also shared that it'll come with a corresponding audiobook narrated by herself and Stephanie J. Block.
A press release disclosed that she'll introduce each chapter of her upcoming volume before jumping on the microphone with Block, who starred as Cher in the Broadway production of "The Cher Show."
The singer disclosed that the reason she decided to partner with Block on the project was not just because she was familiar with her life and her professional endeavors but also because of her dyslexia.
"I knew I wouldn't be able to do it all myself," Cher explained in a statement, adding, "I knew [Block] would be the perfect choice to get across to the reader the essence of me. I called her and within hours she rearranged her schedule to start the recording."
She added, "I felt so safe having her help share my story, and she did a beautiful job."
Cher Ended Her Fight To Gain Conservatorship Of Her Second Son
The singer will no longer seek conservatorship of her son Elijah as she shifts her focus towards healing and strengthening their family bond.
For months, Cher tried to get a court to put her son under a conservatorship, claiming that he was unable to manage his finances due to his past battles with drug and alcohol addiction.
However, after Elijah and his wife, Marieangela King, fought back against her claims, she finally decided to back off.
Elijah's attorneys, Avi Levy and Steven Brumer of Cage & Miles, LLP, shared a statement with People Magazine, noting that "the team successfully defended Elijah, resulting in Cher voluntarily dismissing her petition."
"This outcome allows the parties to focus on healing and rebuilding their family bond, a process that began during mediation and continues today," they added.
According to Rolling Stone, the singer's lawyer, Gabrielle Vidal, said in court that she and her son "privately resolved this matter" via mediation, and she opted to withdraw her petition without prejudice.
