Tory Lanezcannot seem to catch a break when it comes to legal dramas.
The incarcerated rapper who maintains his innocence in the Megan Thee Stallion shooting case is echoing a similar tune in a 2022 car crash lawsuit. He was sued by a woman who accused him of negligent driving, among other crimes.
The incident between Tory Lanez and the plaintiff allegedly occurred in 2021, but he denied all allegations of wrongdoing. Now, the convicted Hip-Hop star wants a judge to intervene in collecting evidence proving his innocence.
Tory Lanez Wants To Subpoena His Accuser For Her Medical Records
Despite being behind bars for shooting Megan Thee Stallion, Lanez refuses to stop fighting to clear his name in the car crash lawsuit. Newly obtained court documents revealed he had requested a judge to sign off on his subpoena.
He wished to collect evidence from his accuser, Krishna Grullon, more specifically, her medical provider. The subpoena asked for Grullon's medical provider to hand over all medical records, including psychiatric/psychological/mental health records.
Lanez wanted these records to prove the plaintiff had suffered the alleged injuries she highlighted in her lawsuit. Grullon sued him in 2022 over a car crash in January 2021.
She claimed the rapper had been driving a 2017 Bentley Bentayga and "negligently operated and/or maintained the motor vehicle by crashing into the rear left side of" her car. The documents obtained by In Touch added that Lanez left the collision scene without getting out of his car.
The Plaintiff Claimed She Was Pregnant And Injured
Grullon slammed Lanez for failing to maintain a proper lookout, failing to yield, failing to obey a traffic signal, and more. She stressed that she was four months pregnant at the time, and the crash left her with pain and suffering.
She also sued for loss of past wages, loss of future earning capacity, mental anguish, and loss of enjoyment of life due to the collision. Grullon demanded an unspecified amount in damages, but Lanez had no interest in paying. The rapper's defense argued:
"For a first affirmative defense, defendant would show unto the court that the plaintiff's negligence contributed to the accident and his/her injury and damages because of his/her own negligence and any recovery by the plaintiff is diminished or extinguished thereby."
Lanez also denied being involved in the car collision, a similar sentiment he echoed during his shooting drama with Megan. That case returned to the spotlight in late October following the female rapper's confession about their relationship.
Megan Thee Stallion Reveals The True Nature Of Her Relationship With Lanez
When Megan accused Lanez of shooting her, she denied having a sexual relationship with him. However, The Blast reported that her tune changed in her new Amazon Prime documentary "Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words."
The "Mamushi" rapper confessed that she hooked up with Lanez once or twice while intoxicated before the shooting. She also addressed why she lied to Gayle King about her sexual relationship with Lanez in a 2022 interview.
Megan claimed she lied because King's question about her ties to Lanez caught her off guard. Although she lied, the entertainer stressed that her relationship with the rapper did not excuse his actions.
The Convicted Rapper Plans to Appeal His Case
Ceasar McDowell, CEO of Unite the People, the nonprofit law firm representing Lanez, revealed they would use Megan's confession to appeal their case. He argued that her narrative of the shooting was untrustworthy, saying:
"The fact that Megan lied about her sexual relationship with Tory obviously makes her an unreliable witness. If someone lies in front of millions of people, how can you trust what they say any other time?"
The rep claimed Lanez's appeal motion "includes previous false statements made by Megan." The update comes a year after the rapper was sentenced to 10 years behind bars following a guilty verdict from the jury.
Tory Lanez's Wife Filed For Divorce Amid His Incarceration
Earlier this year, The Blast shared that Lanez's problems had increased with a divorce filing. His wife, Raina Chassagne, moved to end their marriage amid his incarceration on June 10, 2024.
Her documents revealed the pair said their vows on June 25, 2023, six months after Lanez was convicted for shooting Megan in the foot. Chassagne blamed the end of their short union on "irreconcilable differences" and made an interesting demand.
Lanez's wife asked for spousal support but asked the Court to reserve her right to request compensation from the rapper at a future date. It was unclear if she did so because he was behind bars, but he did not have to worry about paying her for now.
From his battle with Megan Thee Stallion to the car collision lawsuit and his divorce, Tory Lanez's time behind bars won't be peaceful with his mounting problems.
