Just hours before Election Day, singer and actress Demi Lovato took to Instagram to share why she cast her early vote for Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
In a heartfelt video post, Lovato made her stance clear, wearing a Kamala Harris T-shirt and an “I Voted” sticker, a strong visual statement of her support for Harris and Walz in the upcoming election.
Demi Lovato explained her choice in the caption and in the video, urging her followers to consider the stakes in this election.
Demi Lovato Votes Early For The 2024 Election
In her video, Demi Lovato told her fans that she voted for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz because "they're fighting for a new way forward."
"They will proudly work to restore our reproductive freedom, fight for our rights, and protect our democracy," she said. "So, if you ever felt like you didn't know if your vote mattered, it truly does. You have the power to make your voice heard."

Lovato also explained her choice in the caption, urging her followers to consider the stakes in this election. “Our rights are on the line,” she stated firmly, emphasizing the importance of voting for candidates who will advocate for individual freedoms and protections.
"I was proud to vote early for @kamalaharris and @timwalz yesterday because I believe they will stand with those who need it most," she said. "Whether it’s protecting a woman’s right to choose, fighting for LGBTQ+ rights, or defending our democracy. Our rights are on the line."
While some backed Demi Lovato's support for Kamala Harris, many others slammed the actress for voting Democrat.
"Nobody wants Kamala for president, so shut your mouth," one user wrote.
"Women’s rights? [laughing face emoji.] Where was all that energy during COVID when she forced people to get the jab?" another asked. "No one should listen to anyone famous who to vote for. They all paid actors."
Demi Lovato Uses Both She/Her And They/Them Pronouns
In May 2021, Demi Lovato—who now uses both she/her and they/them pronouns—came out as non-binary, sharing their preference for they/them pronouns in an emotional video. This announcement came just weeks after Lovato had publicly identified as pansexual.
"I'm so fluid now, and a part of the reason why I am so fluid is because I was, like, super closeted off," she explained during an appearance on "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast.
Reflecting on their gender identity, the "Cool for the Summer" singer described feeling "equally masculine and feminine" and explained their approach to keeping their identity “open and free” as it continues to evolve.
Kamala Harris Advocates For The LGBTQ Community
Kamala Harris has long been a trailblazer in supporting pro-LGBTQ policies, often adopting progressive stances before other prominent figures in her party.
As San Francisco’s district attorney in 2004, she officiated some of the nation’s first same-sex marriages after then-Mayor Gavin Newsom directed the county clerk to approve the unions, despite the lack of legal recognition at the time.
Although these marriages were invalidated a few months later, Harris continued her advocacy. When she became California’s attorney general in 2010, she took a firm stand by refusing to defend Proposition 8, a voter-approved measure that banned same-sex marriage in the state.
Tim Walz Has Also Been A Huge Advocate For The LGBTQ Community
Kamala Harris's running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, is also known for his strong advocacy of LGBTQ rights.
Back in the 1990s, while working as a high school teacher, Walz served as the faculty adviser to help establish his school’s first gay-straight alliance, a pioneering move for LGBTQ inclusivity at the time. “I understood what it meant to be that older, straight, white guy who was coaching football,” he said. “It’s easy to be an ally when it’s easy to be an ally. What really matters is knowing who’s going to be at your side and stand up when it’s hard.”
“This is the most pro-LGBTQ+ administration in American history,” Governor Walz said earlier this year, praising Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden. He highlighted the enactment of the Respect for Marriage Act, which guarantees that same-sex and interracial marriages will remain recognized, regardless of any future rulings by the U.S. Supreme Court.
