While addressing the packed crowd of 50,000 fans at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium, the 47-year-old “Paradise” singer unexpectedly stumbled through an open trap door on stage.
The incident occurred as Chris Martin walked backward, unaware of the drop directly behind him.

As British rock band Coldplay wrapped up the last of four shows at Melbourne's Marvel Stadium, frontman Chris Martin took a sudden and dramatic tumble through an open trap door. Martin was mid-speech, entertaining the crowd with anecdotes about the band’s international Music of the Spheres World Tour when the unexpected fall occurred.
The incident was captured on video by fans and quickly shared on social media, sparking concern and reactions from viewers.
In footage shared on X, Martin, a seven-time Grammy winner, is seen walking backward along a raised runway, fully engaged with the audience, before he abruptly topples through the trap door. The fall drew a loud gasp from the 50,000-strong crowd, as they watched in shock.
Chris Martin Quickly Recovers From The Unexpected Fall
Just moments after the unexpected drop, a crew member standing in the gap helped the “Clocks” singer, who was dressed in a blue T-shirt and black cargo pants, back onto the stage.
“That’s, uh, not planned. Thank you for catching me,” he quipped into his mic, still catching his breath. “Thank you, guys, holy sh-t."
He later joked that the fall would “probably be a YouTube moment," which reassured fans that he was okay, and cheers erupted from the 50,000 fans across Marvel Stadium.
Fortunately, the father of two avoided any injuries from the fall, allowing him to continue with the performance.

Several videos of the incident made their rounds on social media, particularly on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, with one user expressing, "Thank god Chris Martin from @coldplay is okay after he fell through the trap door on the stage."
"Chris Martin and Coldplay were really awesome at Marvel tonight ..what a concert," another said, resharing the video. "But Chris almost came to grief falling into an access hatch."

The moment, captured by fans, quickly circulated on social media, showing the shocking mishap.
However, Rodrigo’s professionalism shone through as she quickly caught herself and made a remarkable recovery, continuing with the show despite the unexpected fall. Later, as a precaution, she went to the hospital, where she was thankfully given the all-clear with no injuries.
