Puppy yoga is a delightful fusion of yoga practice and puppy playtime, where participants can enjoy the benefits of yoga while interacting with adorable puppies.

This class features basic yoga poses and stretches for all levels, with puppies roaming freely around participants. The puppies may cuddle, play, or even climb on people, adding a unique element of joy and relaxation to the experience.

On November 10 and December 8, Virgin Hotels Las Vegas is hosting the popular class in partnership with Wagging Tails Rescue in the hopes of not only helping participants find their zen, but also for the pups to find forever homes.

Puppy Yoga Offers Great Mental And Physical Health Benefits

Yoga is great for the mind, body, and soul, and the same could be said about puppies. And while the physical health benefits of doing yoga can be great, the mental benefits can be even better.

“Yoga is a great way to improve strength, flexibility, and manage stress. Though with puppy yoga, I have to admit the mental benefits seem to have a stronger presence in the yoga studio,” Dean said. “The puppies bring joy, playfulness, and laughter to the yoga practice. We do our best to incorporate poses that create awareness of the surroundings and encourage the puppies to flop down on the mat and interact with the participants. Everyone leaves with a smile and mental boost, not only from the experience, but knowing that their participation supported Wagging Tails Rescue.”

The hour-long class provides an environment that “fosters an opportunity to be present in the moment and slow down.”

“With the puppies running around the studio, you become acutely aware of your movements and their presence to take the experience through a nurturing lens,” Dean said.

Wagging Tails Rescue Hopes To Get Some Puppies Adopted Through The Yoga Class

The local rescue brings between 10 and 12 puppies to the puppy yoga class and has seen some adoption success thanks to the events. And another benefit - the puppies get to socialize and play.

“We have had a couple of adoptions as a result of the class. We hope people sharing their photos on their social media will reach new people who might not be aware that you can get puppies in rescue,” Jodi Simard, Executive Director of Wagging Tails Rescue said.

“The yoga classes are an ideal, safe way to socialize the puppies with new people, sights, sounds, and smells outside of their foster home. They also have so much fun.”

The rescue is foster based, so they do not have a central location. All of their puppies and dogs stay in volunteer homes around the city.

“We average 75 dogs in rescue at any time and a dog will stay with us until they are adopted. For a litter of puppies, this often means they are with us for two months,” Simard said. “We always need new foster homes and we fully support our fosters with all needed supplies.”

Adopting A Puppy Or Older Dog

If someone is interested in adopting a pup, the process begins online with an Adoption Interest form. This helps the rescue match a potential adopter with the right dog.

“Since our dogs live in homes, we know how they are with other dogs, kids, sometimes cats,” Simard said. “We know who can be left home happily when someone goes to work and who needs more time and attention. Every dog is spayed/neutered, microchipped, and current on vaccinations prior to adoption.”

The rescue also holds adoption events every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Petco, located at 645 W. Green Valley Pkwy. For more information on the rescue, visit their website.
