Shawn Mendes Says 'I Don’t Really Know Sometimes' About His Sexuality

The "Never Be Alone" singer got vulnerable with his audience during a concert performance about the pressure of figuring out his sexual identity.

Shawn Mendes is back performing his songs after taking a break from his world tour in 2022 to focus on his mental health.

The pop star took a brief moment to talk about the speculations surrounding his sexuality over the years during his concert at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado on Monday night.

In the viral clip, Mendes acknowledged how starting out in the industry at such a young age limited him from fully exploring his sexuality. He said:

"There's this thing about my sexuality, and people have talked about it for so long…The truth about my life and my sexuality is that, man, I'm just figuring it out like everyone."

The singer explained that he sometimes gets confused and admitted, "It feels really scary because we live in a society that has a lot to say about that." He also introduced a new song to the audience, explaining that writing the song felt essential for expressing his truths in a heartfelt manner.

Mendes fans trooped to the comment section to air their opinions on his latest statement. "If you're his age and 'still figuring it out,' I think it's safe to say you're pansexual or, more commonly, bisexual," someone wrote.

Another commenter showed solidarity with the singer, writing, "Good for him. He deserves the space to figure it out, and he doesn't owe anyone an explanation."

In February 2023, The Blast noted that the 26-year-old disclosed it was vital for him to cancel his tour as he needed to get professional intervention for his mental health issues. In his words:

"The process was very difficult. A lot of doing therapy, a lot of trying to understand how I was feeling and what was making me feel that way. And then doing the work to help myself and heal. And also leaning on people in my life to help a little bit."

Despite how arduous therapy and the whole process was for him, he described it as the "most eye-opening and growing and beautiful and just healing process."

Mendes also acknowledged the help he got from people around him who were "so accepting and loving and kind and understanding." Having his small village of helpful people opened his eyes to how progressive the world has become and how mental health is becoming a very important talking point.

While he was away from the stage, the singer allegedly built a romantic connection with 51-year-old Dr. Jocelyne Miranda in 2023. Miranda has an educational and medical background in biomechanics, biodynamics, and soft tissues.

The speculations filled the air after she was spotted entering his apartment with an overnight bag and was escorted by the award-winning singer, who wore a black tank top and gray cargo pants.

The alleged romantic duo were first romantically linked last July after they were captured on a lunch date together. If true, she would be his first girlfriend since singer Camila Cabello.

Fans quickly recalled that the pair had previously worked together on the singer's tour in 2018-2019. Miranda was also reportedly present during his performance at the American Music Awards (AMAs), the MTV Video Music Awards, and "Saturday Night Live."

Miranda's chapter apparently closed as the singer and his on-and-off girlfriend set the tongues wagging back in July at a soccer game. The Blast reported that they sat together in a private box at Hard Rock Stadium, where fans would not stop taking their pictures.

Cabello and Mendes appeared unfazed by the flashing lights as they sat and chatted the whole time. The famous pair began the relationship in 2019 after their first meeting and a prolonged friendship in 2014.

However, since their first official split in 2021, the estranged duo have tried and failed at getting back together with instances of short-lived flings.
