Sunny Hostin took a direct shot at Donald Trump after comedian Tony Hinchcliffe's comments about Puerto Rico at the DNC rally in Madison Square.
Hinchcliffe had made some jokes where he called the Caribbean island"garbage," and it did not sit well with "The View" co-host. Her response echoed pride in Puerto Rico's strong military presence, contrasting it with Trump's own record.
Sunny Hostin took the fight to Donald Trump, going down memory lane and some history lessons.
Sunny Hostin Calls Donald Trump Trash
Known for her pride in her Puerto Rican heritage, Hostin addressed Hinchcliffe's remarks head-on and aimed her pointed remarks at Trump on Monday's episode of "The View." Highlighting Puerto Rico's contributions, Hostin said:
"Puerto Rico is trash? We are Americans, Donald Trump. American. We voluntarily served disproportionately high in the military, while you have bone spurs."
She also emphasized Puerto Ricans' voting power across the U.S., and in a dig at Trump's social media following, she pointed out that Puerto Rican icons like Jennifer Lopez and Ricky Martin have amassed far more influence on Instagram. Hostin did not stop there, she further stressed:
"And we don't like what was said about Puerto Rico. And we know how to take the trash out, Donald Trump — trash that has been collecting since 2016, and that's you, Donald Trump."
As PEOPLE noted, the TV host closed her message with a sharp reminder, "Trash collection day is November 5, 2024."

ICYMI, Hosting fiery response followed remarks made by the comedian during a Trump rally at Madison Square Garden on October 27.
While addressing the crowd, Hinchcliffe quipped, "I don't know if you guys know this, but there's literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it's called Puerto Rico."
His comments sparked outrage, prompting a swift backlash from Hostin, who felt his joke was not only offensive but also perpetuated harmful stereotypes about the territory.
Before coming for Trump, the TV personality expressed her love for the island and her commitment to defending it, stating, "This Puerto Rican has something to say about the island that I love — where my family is from."
Trump's Campaign Quickly Distances Itself From Tony Hinchcliffe Jokes
After Hinchcliffe stirred up controversy with jokes about the Latin community, the former president's team was forced to disavow his remarks. The comedian's comments, delivered Sunday at Madison Square Garden, included an offensive stereotype about the Latino community, saying:
"These Latinos, they love making babies... There's no pulling out." He also pointed to a Black audience member while recalling carving watermelons with a Black "buddy."
According to NBC News, the remarks were deemed so offensive that Trump's campaign quickly moved to deny any association with Hinchcliffe.
On "The View," Whoopi Goldberg introduced a fiery response from Hostin as she addressed the backlash against Hinchcliffe's performance.
"A spokesperson said the joke was in poor taste and did not reflect the campaign's or you-know-who's views," Goldberg explained, making it clear that even Trump's team couldn't support the comedian's words.
Co-hosts on the show seized the moment to reflect on the tone set at these rallies, with one of them adding, "That's when you realize they vote."
The Former US President Sought Endorsement From Joe Rogan
Last week, the 78-year-old Republican presidential candidate made headlines with a nearly three-hour appearance on "The Joe Rogan Experience."
During the episode, Trump aimed to secure a public endorsement, boasting about his "nicest endorsement" from Elon Musk and encouraging Rogan to do the same. "You should do the same thing, Joe," he insisted, reflecting his drive for influential allies.
The mood lightened when Trump humorously dismissed any chance of Rogan supporting Kamala Harris. Despite his persistent efforts, Rogan refrained from endorsing him during the episode, keeping the possibility of future support open.
Rogan Believed Donald Trump's Presidency Is Not As Extreme
While he has not explicitly endorsed him yet, Rogan had stated that Trump is not a dictator, suggesting a level of approval for the former president.
In a previous episode of his podcast, the 57-year-old asserted that Trump did not deserve the label of "dictator." Rogan reflected on his first term, arguing it was less extreme than many feared.
"Everyone's saying he's going to be a dictator. Well, he wasn't a dictator. He was the president," the podcaster explained. He also noted the strong economy during Trump's tenure and his attempts to address pressing issues in the country.
Despite his defense, Rogan acknowledged a significant challenge for Trump: his personality. As he pointed out, "We don't necessarily want that as the guy with his finger on the button."
As Donald Trump continues to navigate his public image and seek endorsements, will the fallout from Tony Hinchcliffe's comments have lasting implications for his support?
