Jennifer Aniston Pays Tribute To Matthew Perry On First Anniversary Of His Death

Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel Green alongside Matthew Perry’s Chandler Bing on "Friends," posted a series of throwback photos capturing some of their most cherished moments together, both on-screen and off.

Perry, known for his role as Chandler Bing, tragically passed away on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54, leaving fans and loved ones alike devastated.

One year later, on Monday, October 28, Aniston shared a nostalgic tribute on Instagram, posting several throwback photos of herself with Perry.

The photos Aniston shared included moments from their time on "Friends," as well as a cast photo with Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer. Aniston added a simple yet emotional caption, “1 year,” accompanied by a bandaged heart emoji and an angel emoji.

The actress also tagged the Matthew Perry Foundation, a tribute to Perry's commitment to supporting addiction recovery, a cause he championed in his later years.

Aniston’s tribute joins a series of heartfelt messages from Perry’s former cast mates, each sharing their grief and fond memories of Perry over the past year. She was the second "Friends" cast member to publicly honor Perry following his untimely death.

The grief that followed Perry’s passing brought renewed awareness of his personal battles, especially his journey through addiction—a struggle he openly discussed and used as a platform to help others. His foundation, tagged by Aniston in her recent Instagram post, aims to continue that mission.

Perry’s death was initially a shock to fans worldwide, with the official report later revealing that he had passed from “the acute effects of ketamine,” while drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine were contributing factors.

This one-year mark is both a painful and tender reminder of a friend who left an indelible mark on their lives. Aniston’s quiet, heartfelt tribute reflects the profound connection they shared and serves as a beautiful homage to the legacy Perry leaves behind—not only in his work but in his dedication to helping those battling addiction.

Shortly after Perry's passing last year, the "Friends" cast paid tribute to their late co-star with individual social media posts. For Aniston's part, she began, "Oh boy this one has cut deep... Having to say goodbye to our Matty has been an insane wave of emotions that I’ve never experienced before."

"We all experience loss at some point in our lives. Loss of life or loss of love. Being able to really SIT in this grief allows you to feel the moments of joy and gratitude for having loved someone that deep. And we loved him deeply," she continued. "He was such a part of our DNA. We were always the 6 of us. This was a chosen family that forever changed the course of who we were and what our path was going to be."

She then commented on Perry's sense of humor. "For Matty, he KNEW he loved to make people laugh," she said. "As he said himself, if he didn't hear the ‘laugh’ he thought he was going to die. His life literally depended on it. And boy did he succeed in doing just that. He made all of us laugh. And laugh hard."

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office officially determined Perry’s cause of death to be the “acute effects of ketamine,” with toxicology reports revealing ketamine levels of 3,540 ng/ml in his system—a concentration within the range commonly used in surgical anesthesia, typically spanning from 1,000 to 6,000 ng/ml.

This finding has now led to serious legal repercussions for five individuals connected to the late actor’s death.

Charged in connection with Perry's untimely passing are Dr. Mark Chavez, Dr. Salvador Plasencia, and Erik Fleming, each of whom allegedly played a role in distributing the ketamine found in Perry’s system. Fleming has reportedly admitted to directly supplying the actor with the drug, which contributed to Perry’s fatal overdose.

Also facing charges are Jasveen Sangha, infamously known as the “Ketamine Queen” due to her role in the distribution of the drug in the Los Angeles area, and Kenneth Iwamasa, Perry’s live-in personal assistant.
