Stiff Person Syndrome has greatly impacted Dion's daily life and has kept her from being able to sing. As she is on the road to recovery, Dion has revealed returning to singing is one of her biggest goals.

Last Summer, the "I'm Alive" singer sat down with the hosts of the TODAY show to discuss her 17-year battle with Stiff Person Syndrome. In the trailer for her appearance, Dion tearfully revealed she initially overlooked the symptoms of the disorder.

"We did not know what was going on [with me]. I did not take the time... I should have stopped and took the time to figure it out. Dion's body gave an in-depth explanation of how her body involuntarily affects her life. The disorder leaves the singer dealing with "muscle spasms" which make singing quite difficult. Dion has difficulty controlling her pitch due to the spasms.

"It's like somebody is strangling you," she went on. "Like somebody is pushing your larynx/pharynx."

The rest of her body is also affected by the muscle spasms. "The spasms can also be in the abdominal, spine, or ribs," Dion described.

"If I point my feet, they will stay [stuck in that position], or if I cook - because I love to cook - my fingers, my hands, will get in a position. My feet - it's [like] cramping, but it's like [they get] in a position, and you cannot unlock them," she shared.

In an emotional Instagram post, the "Power of Love" singer shared her goal of returning to the stage with her fans, sharing how much she is determined to maintain a sense of normalcy.

Dion also shared how "grateful" she has been for the support since announcing her diagnosis. She also was adamant in providing encouragement to her fellow Stiff Person Syndrome survivors.

"I want to send my encouragement and support to all those around the world that have been affected by SPS. I want you to know you can do it. We can do it," Dion concluded her post.
