Patrick Mahomes Sr. was arrested on February 3, just days before his son led the Kansas City Chiefs to a third Super Bowl victory, after being pulled over in Tyler, Texas, where he registered a blood alcohol content of 0.23.

In August, father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes submitted a guilty plea, agreeing to serve 10 days in county jail, along with five years of probation and an additional year of "intense supervision."

On Monday, October 21, Patrick Mahomes Sr. was booked and began serving his 10-day jail sentence.

Patrick Mahomes Sr. Booked Into Smith County Jail

According to court documents obtained by People, the former MLB pitcher was booked into Smith County Jail at 4:53 p.m. on Monday, October 21. He is expected to be released from custody on Oct. 31.

This isn’t Patrick Mahomes Sr.’s first legal issue. Texas criminal records show several arrests over the last 15 years, and his mugshots are part of the record.

Specifically, in 2016, Mahomes Sr. was charged with public intoxication during a game between TCU and Texas Tech, his son’s alma mater, according to Bleacher Report. Then, in 2018, he served 40 days in county jail following a prior DWI arrest.

Patrick Mahomes Sr. Tried To Use His Son's Super Bowl Appearance To Avoid Charges

During his February arrest in Tyler, Texas, the former New York Mets player reportedly tried to leverage his son’s upcoming Super Bowl appearance in an attempt to avoid facing charges, per The New York Post.

“Can I say one thing?” Mahomes Sr. asked the arresting officer. “My son is getting ready to play in the f-cking Super Bowl, OK? Just listen to me. I am not drunk. I promise you. I’ve had some drinks. But he can’t have this right now. Listen, this can’t happen … Patrick Mahomes.”

“We’ve never had a star here in this area and now we got a chance to be a star and now we going to have a scandal now,” Mahomes Sr. continued. “We’re gonna have a scandal for no f–king reason because my registration when he gifted me the car hasn’t gotten in yet, which would probably be in in the next day or two.”

The former MLB player continued, “Dude, this is crazy. My son is getting ready to play in the f-cking Super Bowl and I’m doing interviews, five or six a day, and then, now, this sh-t’s going to be on the news which is going to f-ck with him, and it’s probably going to f–k him up."

“And he probably won’t win the Super Bowl. But that’s fine. If that’s what y’all want to do, that’s good.” (For the record, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs went on to win the Super Bowl.)

He had a BAC of 0.23 and an open 16-ounce Coors beer in his car.

The Mahomes Family's Past Legal Troubles

Patrick Mahomes Sr. is not the only one to have faced legal troubles recently. Patrick's younger brother, Jackson Mahomes, was accused of inappropriate conduct by a woman named Aspen Vaughn.

According to reports, the 23-year-old social media influencer was at Vaughn's Aspens Restaurant and Lounge in Kansas City when he allegedly shoved a waiter attempting to enter the room he occupied. Jackson later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge and received a sentence of 120 days in jail, along with six months of probation.

"The sentencing came more than two months after prosecutors dismissed three felony charges for aggravated sexual battery," ESPN reported. "Related to accusations that Jackson Mahomes grabbed a woman by the neck and kissed her against her will inside an Overland Park, Kansas, restaurant in February 2023."

Felony Charges Against Jackson Mahomes Were Dropped

Prosecutors ultimately dropped the felony charges after the restaurant owner, Aspen Vaughn, declined to testify. Vaughn reported receiving death threats and harassment, and her restaurant was vandalized following the accusations against Jackson Mahomes.

"Those more serious charges were dropped due to a lack of cooperation from the woman, according to a court filing," ESPN's report added. "The remaining misdemeanor battery charge said Jackson Mahomes shoved a waiter who tried to come into a room where he was with the woman, according to investigators."

Ultimately, she closed the restaurant in August 2023.
