The 1975 frontman Matty Healy is examining his creative direction regarding any future music.

The musician has largely been linked to his former flame Taylor Swift whenever he is mentioned in the press, as of late. The duo briefly dated after the pop icon ended her relationship of six years with actor Joe Alwyn. Healy is now engaged to fiancée model Gabbriette Bechtel, and the "Tortured Poets Department" singer has been dating Kansas City Chiefs football player Travis Kelce.

Healy was recently a guest on the Doomscroll Podcast. The "Chocolate" singer discussed multiple aspects of his musical creative process and the directions he would like to take it in the future.

While discussing the sound he would like to incorporate into his music going forward, Healy revealed he would rather leave singing about his personal life on the wayside. This could be interpreted as a reference to Swift's latest LP, "The Tortured Poets Department," which contains multiple songs widely thought to be about the songstress' brief romance with Healy.

Matty Healy And Taylor Swift Were An Item Once Upon A Time

In the Spring of last year, Swift and Healy were famously spotted out several times, including an instance where the duo were seen walking out of Electric Lady Studios. Billboard wondered if the duo might've been working on a collaboration at the time, or could possibly be dating.

As it turned out, the pair did embark on a romance. In late May of 2023, Healy was thought to have been "ready to move in" with Swift, allegedly moving some of his belongings to New York.

Less than a month later, the duo's romance was reportedly finished. According to a source's tidbit to TMZ at the time, the "Daylight" singer was "single," and the official reason for the split was unknown.

The two musicians soon realized they were incompatible, per a source to Entertainment Tonight. Their busy schedules were also revealed to be a reason why their romance fizzled out.

Those closest to the "Exile" songstress were allegedly not surprised by the breakup because Swift only had ended her relationship with Alwyn not long before she and Healy began seeing each other.

The source also said, "Taylor's friends want what's best for her and aren't shocked that their relationship fizzled out since she recently got out of a long-term relationship."

The brief fling, which was also described by Page Six as a way for Swift to "let off some steam" following her split with the "Conversations With Friends" actor, was thought to inspire multiple songs on Swift's latest album.

The "About You" singer went into detail surrounding the direction he would like to see The 1975 take in the future, in the "Doomscroll" podcast interview. The band recently appeared on Charli XCX's "Brat" collaboration-filled reimagining, appearing on the track "I Might Say Something Stupid" featuring Jon Hopkins.

Healy divulged info about the forthcoming sixth LP by the band. He shared, per Us Weekly, "The new record is, I suppose, born from me nearly going insane and that being a kind of internet-induced insanity," although he did not explicitly state the exact situation he was referring to.

The musician went on to explain, "You know if I made a record about all the stuff that was said about me or my casual romantic liaisons or whatever it may be that I’ve kind of become known for just because I was famous, I think that’s an obvious thing to draw from. I’m just not interested in it," continuing, "The idea of making a record about something that personally happened to me that, by the time I put it out, is gonna be, like, two years old — I see people doing that, as well, and it’s just not interesting," he explained.

"Interesting art pop" is the direction Healy sees himself traveling into. He goes on to say he would rather have fans hear about the subjects that "actually interest" him, rather than how he is perceived in the media.

The 'Love Me' Singer Was Reportedly 'Pleased' By The LP's Content

The first album Swift released in the wake of her breakup with Healy in the Summer of 2023 contained multiple songs that were thought to be about her former boyfriend.

Healy allegedly was "pleased" with the resulting attention the record brought him, and also thought it to be "hilarious" since the pair weren't "in a serious relationship," as The Blast previously reported.

One of Healy's friends revealed to Us Weekly that some of the album's lyrical content, including lines about "living together and having children" were fictitious.

"It had never even come up," the friend told the publication.

Matty Healy Told Paparazzi He Hadn't Listened To The Album After Release

Shortly after "The Tortured Poets Department" hit stores in April, a paparazzi photographer asked the "UGH!" singer if he had listened, to which he denied having done at the time.

"I haven't really listened to that much of it, but I'm sure it's good," Healy said.

Healy's aunt was reportedly unhappy with the "one-sided" perspective of the record's material.

"As my nephew, we know a bit more about what went on than has been in the press," Debbie Dedes remarked to The Daily Mail. Dedes also added, "Nothing surprises him anymore."

"The Tortured Poets Department" was released on April 19th, of this year.
