Joni Mitchell didn’t hold back during her Los Angeles concert on Saturday, where she took a swipe at presidential nominee Donald Trump while urging her fans to participate in this year's election.
The legendary singer-songwriter made her stance clear during a recent performance, taking a bold shot at Donald Trump while rallying her fans to vote in the upcoming election. Her sharp remarks resonated with the audience, as she referenced the provocative rap anthem “FDT” by YG featuring Nipsey Hussle, underscoring her disapproval of the GOP presidential nominee in a powerful and unapologetic way.
Joni Mitchell seized the opportunity during her Hollywood Bowl show to deliver multiple jabs at the GOP nominee.
Joni Mitchell Performs At The Hollywood Bowl
On Saturday, October 19, Mitchell took the stage for her first headlining concert in Los Angeles in 24 years, an event titled the Joni Jam. During her performance at the Hollywood Bowl, she treated the audience to a rendition of the political track "Dog Eat Dog," marking its first live performance since 1985.
In addition to her pointed remarks, Mitchell delighted the audience with a selection of songs that hadn't graced the stage in decades, including "Sunny Sunday" and "God Must Be A Boogie Man."
She also treated fans to the live debuts of tracks like "If I Had A Heart" and "Harlem In Havana," showcasing her remarkable catalog and reminding everyone why she remains a legendary figure in music.
Joni Mitchell Takes Multiple Jabs At Donald Trump
When a member of the audience shouted a diss aimed at Trump, Mitchell chuckled and took a moment to share her thoughts. “'F--- Donald Trump' — I love that song,” the legendary singer-songwriter declared, alluding to YG’s 2016 protest anthem “FDT” featuring Nipsey Hussle, as reported by Billboard.
This remark followed her performance of “Dog Eat Dog,” a track from 1985 where she critiques those who “lie, cheat, skim, scam” during her Hollywood Bowl concert. As she sang, “Snakebite evangelists and racketeers and big wig financiers,” Mitchell added, “Like Donald Trump.”
“Everybody get out and vote. This is an important one. I wish I could vote – I’m Canadian. I’m one of those lousy immigrants,” she said, laughing.
By the end of her performance, almost the entire crowd of 17,000 was on their feet, applauding.
Who Else Has Spoken Out About The 2024 Presidential Election?
During her appearance on "The View," Wanda Sykes pointedly remarked that convicted felon Trump likely possesses all the qualities Melania Trump praised—"when he’s not sexually assaulting women."
Earlier this year, Sykes subsequently joined the table for her interview, where Joy Behar asked for her take on the potential threat Trump could pose to comedians like themselves if he were to be reelected.
“Well I mean, maybe we can share a cell,” she joked. However, Behar didn’t seem to welcome that notion, responding to Sykes with an awkward silence that left the other hosts laughing before she finally said, “I don’t think so.”
In a more serious tone, Sykes said, “It’s ridiculous. I mean, it is. I know you’re making a joke about it, but it could really happen. He could, he wants to be a dictator.”
Taylor Swift Throws Support Behind Kamala Harris
In addition to Mitchell and Sykes, pop star Taylor Swift publicly endorsed Kamala Harris after watching her debate with Donald Trump earlier this year.
"I was so heartened and impressed by [Harris'] selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades," she told her fans in a social media post. "I have done my research and made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make."
Lizzo Slammed For Recent Political Comments
Lizzo, born Melissa Viviane Jefferson, stirred up a significant online debate during her appearance with the Democratic nominee at Western International High School in Detroit. The 36-year-old singer, a proud native of the city, ignited controversy when she suggested that if Harris were to secure a seat in the White House, America would mirror the characteristics of her beloved hometown.
"I'm so proud to be from this city, you know they say if Kamala wins then the whole country will be like Detroit," she said. "Proud like Detroit, resilient like Detroit. The same Detroit that innovated the auto industry and the music industry. Put some respect on Detroit's name."
Her comments came after Trump based the city, claiming, "The whole country is going to be like, you want to know the truth? It'll be like Detroit. Our whole country will end up being like Detroit if she's your president. You're going to have a mess on your hands."
