The rumor bees have been buzzing about a possible romance between the "Only Murders in the Building" co-stars for a hot minute!
The pair fueled speculation after being spotted together at the Golden Globes in January and further fueled by Streep's divorce, as The Blast previously reported. Fans were quick to chat on social media about the pair sitting together at the ceremony.
Are Meryl Streep and Martin Short dating… because if that’s true… that’s like Gene Wilder and Gilda Radner multiplied by Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft…

Fans also shared photos of the couple seated and smiling together on X. One called the possible coupling their "Roman empire!"
The 'Three Amigos' Actor Speaks Out On His Relationship
A representative for Short was adamant that he and his "Only Murders in the Building" co-star were nothing more than friends, emphasizing the duo were "nothing more."
The "Heartburn" actress and former husband Don Gummer are no longer romantically involved, as the pair ended the romantic element of their relationship seven years ago! The former couple have been said to "still care for one another," and have been living apart for quite some time.
A representative for the couple explained last year, "Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart..." The couple are parents to four adult children.
The "Father of The Bride" star was widowed back in 2010 after his wife's passing from breast cancer. Short was honest in explaining that he still speaks to her.
"So it's tough. She died in 2010, but I still communicate with her all the time. It's 'Hey Nan,' you know?" How would she react to this decision or that, especially regarding our three kids," Short explained in 2019.

The 'Arconia' Received A New Guest Early Last Year
Streep joined the cast of the smash hit original Hulu show early last year. She received lots of critical attention for playing Nicole Kidman's mother-in-law on "Big Little Lies" the previous year.
The "Death Becomes Her" star was introduced to the world as an "Only Murders in the Building," cast member by Gomez on Instagram.
Gomez, who plays Martin and Short's Gen-Z counterpart Mabel, posted a video where Streep pops up from behind a couch. Paul Rudd helps usher Streep into the spotlight as well!

Martin recently had to deliver some bad news to some fans; he didn't think he would be the best choice to play Vice Presidential nominee Tim Walz.
The actor has made several appearances on "Saturday Night Live" over the years with many iconic characters under his belt, but he recently shut down rumors that he would be adding Walz to his character repertoire. Martin also revealed that Lorne Michaels wasn't all in on the decision.
In an LA Times interview, Martin explained, '"I wanted to say no and, by the way, he wanted me to say no. I said, 'Lorne, I'm not an impressionist. You need someone who can really nail the guy.' I was picked because I have gray hair and glasses." He also revealed he wasn't thrilled by the prospect on an ongoing role.
"It's not a one-time gig; it's an ongoing commitment, and I'd struggle with that," Martin added.
Jim Gaffigan is currently playing Walz on the series.
