Todd and Julie Chrisley are facing 11 felony criminal charges related to bank fraud and tax evasion, but the couple has just asked the court to move part of the case from Georgia to Tennessee.
According to documents obtained by The Blast, The Chrisley’s are asking the judge in the case to transfer counts 9 and 10 to the middle district of Tennessee federal court.
The ninth count is a “conspiracy” charge that alleges the couple defrauded the government when “they acted to hide income from the IRS; impede the IRS’ ability to determine their income; failed to timely file tax returns; and spent money on personal expenditures rather than paying their taxes.”
The other charge is tax evasion.
In the docs, the reality stars offer some proof as to why the parts of the case should be moved, saying, they “respectfully show that many of the allegations contained in Counts Nine and Ten are alleged to have occurred during the years 2016, 2017 and 2018.”
It continues, “During those years the Defendants resided in the Middle District of Tennessee.”
So, they filed documents to try and move part of their case out of Georgia to Tennessee. Its unclear, at this point, if the judge will go for it.
But, there may be more behind this filing. The tax evasion charge may carry the heaviest sentence if the Chrisley’s are convicted of the crime. The reality stars could have been advised by their attorney that they may have a better chance of fighting the case or getting a reduced sentence in Tennessee.
Obviously, the documents do not describe why they would rather be in Tennessee, just that the alleged crimes took place in that jurisdiction.
As we reported, the Chrisley’s were indicted in Georgia on 11 criminal counts related to bank fraud and tax evasion. The reality stars are facing up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
We broke the story, the feds allege “throughout the conspiracy,” Todd and Julie knowingly went on lavish spending sprees, dropping thousands of dollars at electronic stores, and luxury retail stores. But, at the same time they claimed they did not have enough cash to pay off their outstanding tax debt.
“Chrisley Knows Best” star Todd Chrisley launched a preemptive strike against the charges claiming an employee of the couple is responsible for the investigation and it will be proven that person is the one who is in the wrong.
A hearing on the request will be set for sometime in the near future.
