The singer had been seen allegedly acting "erratic" in the hotel lobby earlier in the afternoon.

Local newspapers reported police were called to the Palermero neighborhood following reports of "an aggressive man who could be under the effects of drugs and alcohol," per a report from Reuters.

Payne had been open about his mental health struggles with fans. He discussed what he had learned following a stay in a United States-based clinic on his Instagram stories last year.

In the video, he discussed hitting "rock bottom," and his initial reluctance to share the video; he revealed "I filmed a bunch of these over time and deleted them, but I don't know whether this is the right time," in the beginning of the video.

Payne got through that particular video from July 2023 and proclaimed he hoped it "helped" fans seeking like-minded community.
