Actress Kathy Bates has had so much to celebrate lately!
The "Matlock" star has nabbed a hit TV show with the remake of the 1980s courtroom drama and is enjoying a giant milestone in her personal life; The "Titanic" alumna recently revealed a 100-pound weight loss and has shared quite a bit of her process with the public.
The 76-year-old recently shared the life-changing diagnosis leading her to pursue weight loss and detailed the dietary choices she chose to give the boot.
Weight loss can provide many new opportunities, like the new styles one can try! Bates is opening up about the new stylish threads she was able to rock at this year's Emmy's. There are always many exciting moments resulting from weight loss, but Bates has been honest about the emotional toll the actress has experienced during the process.
Kathy Bates Faced An Emotional Health Diagnosis Before Her Weight Loss
Bates' choice to lose a sizable amount of weight was not a result of Hollywood-related pressure; the "Are You There God, It's Me Margaret" actress candidly shared the fear she experienced after facing a Type 2 diabetes diagnosis.
The diagnosis was not unheard of for the actress; diabetes had been commonplace in her family.
In an interview with People, Bates said, "[Diabetes] runs in my family, and I'd seen what my father had gone through. He had had a leg amputation. One of my sisters is dealing with it very seriously, and it terrified me. It scared me straight," the "Fried Green Tomatoes" actress confessed.
Anxiety Ruled Bates' Eating Habits
Bates was open about her self-esteem with the publication. Despite being one of the most popular actresses of her generation, the "A Family Affair" actress still faced an extremely common hindrance, and she was not happy about it.
Bates admitted she "ate as a big FU to [her] self-esteem."
The actress may have dealt with a dark chapter related to how she perceived herself, but it would not last forever. Weight loss would soon bring Bates incredible happiness after introducing her new self to the public!
Kathy Bates Experienced An Emotional Win After Her Weight Loss
The "Misery" star's self-esteem would undoubtedly be given a boost after she attended her first award show following her weight loss!
Last month's Emmy awards gave Bates the opportunity to rock an Armani dress after her seven-year weight loss experience. Opening up to People, the actress vulnerably described the shopping experience she had with a friend: "everything I came out in looked just exquisite," the "Summer Camp" actress described. "We were in tears," she said, per Us Weekly.
The tearful shopping experience morphed into capturing memorable photos on the red carpet she would treasure forever!
Bates described them, "the pictures on the red carpet were so different from any pictures I’d ever had taken on a red carpet," and revealed she'd felt "so relaxed and ready" for the big night!
The 'American Horror Story' Actress Had To Say Goodbye To Favorite Foods
Elimination was a key component of Bates' weight loss. She knew she'd have to get rid of a few staples in her diet. However, Bates was honest about the kind of diet she had maintained before making her big change in 2017.
She kicked burgers and soda to the curb, describing her go-to food choices as "eating terribly.' Bates was also a fan of pizza as well!
Keeping herself away from the kitchen at night and deciding to stop eating after 8 p.m. was also a big help to get the process rolling. Heeding advice from her family also kept her grounded.
Bates told the publication how her niece told her to remember that "when we’re full, we experience an involuntary sigh,” she said. “I just pushed the plate away."
Kathy Bates Experienced 'Hard Work' Through The Grueling Process
The actress lost 80 pounds with the help of grueling work. She also enlisted the help of Ozempic, a drug used to help with diabetes but is also extremely popular for its use in supplementing weight loss.
Ozempic has had a controversial history in Hollywood. Countless celebrities have denied using the drug amid its probable history in show business.
Bates openly admitted to using Ozempic, but she was adamant in explaining to the press how little Ozempic affected her weight loss process in the grand scheme of things.
"There’s been a lot of talk that I just was able to do this because of Ozempic,” she said. “But I have to impress upon people out there that this was hard work for me, especially during the pandemic. It’s very hard to say you’ve had enough."
Bates may be losing weight, but she isn't saying goodbye to her career anytime soon! Contrary to popular belief, the TV dynamo is not bowing out of the public eye.
"I think people got confused and thought I was going to retire,” she told People (per Us Weekly) earlier this month. "What I meant was, how can it get any better? I would love for this to keep going."
