Whoopi Goldberg isn't letting Donald Trump's recent remarks slide.
Former President Donald Trump had a lot to say about "The View" during two rallies in Pennsylvania on Wednesday, October 9, and the co-hosts of the ABC daytime series wasted no time firing back.
Goldberg and Sunny Hostin opened the Thursday live episode with critiques aimed at the Republican presidential candidate. As the moderator, Goldberg set the stage by introducing clips from Trump's rallies in Scranton and Reading, Pennsylvania, to provide context for their responses.
The co-hosts, including Whoopi Goldberg, didn't hold back, delivering epic remarks that underscored their disapproval of Donald Trump's comments.
What Did Donald Trump Say?
Both rallies featured Trump discussing "The View"'s October 8 sit-down with his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris. Instead of addressing the points Harris made during her appearance, Trump opted to direct his criticism at the show's panel of personalities, labeling them as "really dumb people."
Speaking about Goldberg specifically, Trump recalled making a cameo in her 1996 film, "Eddie," alleging that she told him afterward, "'Oh, you’re so great. If you ever ran for president, you’d win.' "
"Politics can do strange things to demented people," Trump said.
Donald Trump Claims He Hired Whoopi Goldberg To Work For Him
He then went on to claim that he hired Goldberg to work for him before as a comedian but was turned off by her act.
"I’m not particularly shy about what I hear. [But] her mouth was so foul," Trump said. "She was so filthy, dirty. Disgusting. Half the place left. I said I’d never hire her again!"
Naturally, this comment sparked outrage among the co-hosts, and their fans, who quickly took the opportunity to defend themselves and counter his remarks.
Whoopi Goldberg Claps Back At Donald Trump's Comments
Goldberg wasn't letting Trump get away with the comments, clapping back by telling viewers, "As it turns out, I was filthy. I was filthy, and stand on that fact. I have always been filthy. And you knew that when you hired me [to be] a headline[r], babe, at your casino — which I might have continued to play had you not run it into the ground!"
Goldberg continued her response by referencing the lewd comments Trump was caught on tape saying in unaired audio from a 2005 interview with Access Hollywood that surfaced during the 2016 election.
"You know how dirty I wasn’t? I never grabbed anybody by their genitalia," she said, referring to the sexual assault allegations made against Trump. "Many people use the F-bomb. He's used the F-bomb... But there's a difference between people who assault other people and people who say words that you don't want little kids saying in the middle of church."
Whoopi Goldberg Doubles Down On Her Recent Comments
Though she admitted to using profanity in her comedy sets, Goldberg firmly pushed back against Trump's claim that he would never hire her again.
"How dumb are you? You hired me four times," Goldberg said, insisting doubters check with her agents at William Morris to fact-check her. "You hired me four times! And you didn’t know what you were getting? How dumb are you?"
Sunny Hostin Also Claps Back Against Donald Trump
Hostin then highlighted his various legal issues over the years, including allegations of sexual assault and the 34 felony counts of falsifying business records for which he was convicted in May.
"Donald Trump, I want to thank you for personally telling so many lies and committing so many alleged crimes and providing us with material on a daily basis," former federal prosecutor Hostin said. "You help us do our jobs and I’m so appreciative. Because of people like you, a former prosecutor and legal expert can become a fixture on a show like this and again, I’m so grateful."
"I admit I may not have spent as much time in a courtroom as you have," she continued. "I was also recognized with a special achievement award by the Department of Justice. You remember the Department of Justice, right? It’s the agency that’s been pursuing you for decades."
"And like Madame VP Kamala Harris, I’ve had a history of prosecuting sex offenders, so thank you for keeping people like us in business," she concluded.
"The View" airs on weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
