Reese Witherspoon Drops Hints About Exciting Twists In 'Big Little Lies' Season 3

Reese Witherspoon is stirring up excitement among "Big Little Lies" fans by teasing what’s in store for Season 3.
In a recent interview, the actress and producer hinted at new twists and deeper character developments, leaving viewers eager to see what lies ahead for the Monterey Five.
While keeping major plot details under wraps, Reese Witherspoon promised that the next season of "Big Little Lies" will continue to deliver the gripping drama that has made the show a fan favorite.
'Big Little Lies' Season 3 To Go Back To Original Characters
"Big Little Lies" made its HBO debut back in February 2017 and quickly became a fan favorite. Set in the picturesque town of Monterey, California, the series follows a group of women whose seemingly perfect lives start to crumble as they get caught up in a murder investigation.
As fans gear up for a highly anticipated third season, Reese Witherspoon wants fans to know that the project is still in the pipeline while dropping hints about how the new installment, which might shake things up compared to the first two seasons.
Witherspoon, who plays Madeline, and co-star Nicole Kidman, who plays Celeste, have both teased the return of the beloved HBO series, more than five years after Season 2 wrapped.
"Nicole and I have been waiting. We're in waiting for Liane Moriarty," Witherspoon told E! News referring to the author of the book on which the series was based. "She's going to be turning in something very soon. We're back to the original author and we're going to go back to the original characters."
Witherspoon teased that the possibilities for Big Little Lies Season 3 are "exciting," hinting that time will have passed for the Monterey Five, who is made up of Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Jane (Shailene Woodley), Renata (Laura Dern), and Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz).
Kidman first sparked rumors of a third season last November.
Reese Witherspoon Hints At Time Jump For Season 3
Witherspoon teased that the possibilities for Big Little Lies Season 3 are "exciting," noting, "I think the kids are probably a little bit older now, so that might add another element," referring to her character’s children and those of the other Monterey Five.
However, she clarified that nothing is set in stone yet, as they're still waiting on the author. "I don't know yet, I haven't read it yet."
Zoë Kravitz Talks 'Big Little Lies'
In August, Zoë Kravitz told People Magazinethat she’s waiting "like everybody else" who is on the edge of their seats to get her hands on the scripts for the new installment of "Big Little Lies."
“I'm waiting to see, like everybody else, the third season that's happening," Kravitz added. "[I'm] waiting by the phone, waiting for the script to be done."
The Season 2 finale of "Big Little Lies" leaves fans on the edge of their seats, as the Monterey Five are seen walking into the police station together, seemingly prepared to turn themselves in for their involvement in the death of Perry Wright.
'Big Little Lies' Season 3 Is In The Works
Earlier this year, Witherspoon, who serves as an executive producer, confirmed that a third season is indeed in the works.
"We are working on it," she told Variety at the 2024 Golden Globes. "Nic and I have been working on it."
Kidman, who is also an executive producer and won an Emmy for her performance as Celeste Wright in the series, shared in January that she and Witherspoon are actively working on the new season, although she couldn't reveal many details at that time.
"We can’t say anything more," she said. "We’ve got to start keeping our mouths shut … we’ve got to button it."

"The Perfect Couple" actress Nicole Kidman candidly shared a detail about what she might have done differently when it comes to revealing information about "Big Little Lies" Season 3.
"We need to shut up," she joked. "There's this whole thing that you should never talk about something until you've done it. If you talk about doing it, it's the dopamine hit of doing it. You feel like you've done it. It's a scientific study."
