Singers who once name-dropped Diddy in their songs are singing a new tune with Joe Jonas opting for a lyric change.
The artist, best known as a member of the famous Jonas Brothers, seemingly distanced himself from the embattled rapper during a recent concert. The move sparked several questions from fans about the lyric change.
Joe Jonas' concert comes weeks after Kesha threw shade at Diddy by removing his tribute from her hit "TiK ToK" song. She first announced her plans to remake the catchy tune during the track's 15th anniversary.
Joe Jonas Skips Diddy's Name During 'Cake By The Ocean' Performance
A video shared by a fan on TikTok captured part of Jonas' performance at the LDLC Arena in Lyon, France. He rocked a black tank top over white pants, vibing along with the crowd from the stage.
He performed his band DNCE's famous 2015 single, "Cake by the Ocean," but changed part of the chorus. The original lyrics were "Walk for me, baby / I'll be Diddy, you'll be Naomi, woah-oh."
But Diddy's name did not escape Jonas' lips during his performance as he seemingly said "Martin" or "I'll be watching" instead. Fans speculated about his words in the comment section, with many rooting for the new name.
"GUYS, it's 'I'll be Martin, u be Naomi," a TikTok user penned, while another echoed similar sentiments, writing: "I hear the same thing, but ppl disagree." A third, per Page Six, added: "I swear to God I've been hearing 'I'll be watching you be my only Woah.'"
Kesha Slammed Diddy With 'TiK ToK' Lyric Change
Jonas' lyric change comes weeks after The Blast reported that Kesha had doubled down on her efforts to shade Diddy. She shared the upcoming rendition of her hit "TiK ToK" song on TikTok.
The video captured the singer and her friends vibing to the track, which changed its opening lyrics from "Wake up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy" to "Wake up in the morning feeling f-ck P. Diddy."
Although she has not officially dropped the rendition, the teaser sparked supportive messages from fans. Many applauded her stance against Diddy, while others begged for the lyric change to be permanent.
One social media user wrote: "Hey Kesha babe, can we get this version put on Spotify, please, 'cause this is one of my favorite songs."While another chimed: "Mother is correcting and teaching."
Kesha Promised To Make The Change Permanent
Before dropping the teaser, Kesha shared her plans to remake her hit tune during the song's 15th anniversary. She commemorated the milestone on X with a lengthy message, vowing to make the lyric change permanent.
She thanked fellow singer Reneé Rapp for the opportunity to shade Diddy for the first time at Coachella earlier this year, writing: "I absolutely love the new lyric change. (Shout out to @reneerapp) Yes, it is permanent. I will re-record it when I have legal rights to!"
"Now, my first baby stands for so much. It stands for fiercely protecting my fun and unadulterated joy, in myself and in others," Kesha continued, noting it was the first song she released with her name and voice credited.
Why The Singer Removed Diddy's Tribute
Kesha explained that "TiK ToK" symbolized her perspective on the world when she wrote it. "That girl was naive and wild and playful," she recalled, adding:
"This song eternalizes a side of myself that I love very much, and now see I have to protect fiercely."
To protect her beloved song, shading Diddy was the right move in Kesha's book, especially with the rapper's federal indictment. The Blast shared that the latter was arrested and detained without bail for three criminal charges.
Inside Diddy's Attempts To Secure Bail
Following his arrest and indictment on September 16, Diddy attempted to secure his release on bail twice. He initially offered $50 million, placing his Miami home and that of his mother's as collateral.
The deal also included allowing the feds to track his whereabouts with a GPS monitor and limited air travel. However, his offer was rejected, and he upped the deal with contact limitations and weekly drug tests.
According to his legal reps, Diddy promised not to restrict female visitors to family members like the mothers of his children and vowed not to contact witnesses involved in the case.
Additionally, the security company responsible for logging all visitors at his Miami Beach home would hand over the information to the government nightly. Diddy added the $50 million bond to his second offer, but the court dismissed it.
Diddy remains behind bars at MDC Brooklyn awaiting trial.
