Suni Lee is now addressing the viral controversial comments made by former Olympian MyKayla Skinner and the 2024 Paris Olympics Women's Gymnastics Team.
As The Blast reported, in a now-deleted YouTube video MyKayla claimed, “Besides Simone [Biles], I feel like the talent and depth just isn’t what it used to be. I mean, a lot of girls don’t work as hard. The girls just don’t have the work ethic.”
Simone Biles has clapped back at MyKayla Skinner on multiple occasions, and now, Suni Lee is speaking out.
Suni Lee Speaks Out About MyKayla Skinner's Recent Comments
After being named one of Glamour's 2024 Women of the Year, Suni Lee opened up about her gymnastics journey, the 2024 Paris Olympics, and those controversial comments made by MyKayla Skinner, who competed in the Olympics during the 2020 Tokyo Games.
“We have a lot of love for her, but it’s frustrating to see her put us down because she knows, basically, about every single thing that we’ve all been through,” Suni told the outlet. “It was more annoying because of all the things that I’ve been through.”
In the year leading up to Paris, Lee faced challenges that extended beyond just imposter syndrome and snide remarks: just before her 20th birthday in early 2023, her life transformed overnight. “I woke up, and my face was so swollen, my body—I looked in the mirror and knew something was wrong,” she recalled, adding that her fingers could barely fit into her grips, and she couldn’t lift her own body. “It literally felt like I had an eight-pound vest on, and I was trying to chuck myself over the bar.”
After many tests, the Olympian was diagnosed with two undisclosed types of kidney disease.
MyKayla Skinner Apologizes For Her Recent Comments
After the comments went viral, the former Olympic gymnast posted a lengthy video to Instagram, taking full responsibility for her actions.
“So why I’m here is because about four weeks ago, I made a comment about work ethic and what seems to be taking pace with the rising generation," she said at the time. "To be totally clear, I take 100 percent responsibility for poorly articulating the point I was trying to make and the last thing I wanted was to cause harm or offend our U.S. Olympic team."
"I know these women are incredible — the very best of the best — and almost all of them are my former teammates, who I have enjoyed very much cheering on the last few years," she added.
Simone Biles Addresses MyKayla Skinner's 'Work Ethic' Comment
Shortly after MyKayla Skinner's comments gained traction, Simone Biles issued a statement on Threads.
“Not everyone needs a mic and a platform," she wrote.
Plus, after the U.S. women’s gymnastics team won gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Simone took to social media to mark the victory, taking a dig at MyKayla by captioning her post: “Lack of talent, lazy, Olympic champions."
MyKayla Skinner Asks Simone Biles To Stop The Online Bullying
Days after Simone Biles and Team USA clinched the gold medal, MyKayla Skinner spoke out, urging Simone to put an end to the cyberbullying and acknowledging that this feud has spiraled out of control.
“I sincerely hoped that this topic wouldn’t need to be revisited but unfortunately things have really gotten out of hand lately," MyKayla said at the time. "And it’s one thing to disagree with me regarding something I have said or a point I was trying to make, but it’s something else entirely when that turns into cyberbullying or even worse."
“Watching people cheer on the bullying — which has led to threats of physical harm to me, my husband, and our daughter — is disgusting," she continued. "So please, at this point, I’m just asking for it to stop for the sake of my family because enough is enough.”
MyKayla Skinner Says She Is 'Heartbroken'

The former Olympian continued, "You guys can imagine my surprise last week when I was celebrating our team winning gold just to see this brought up all over again by a caption on an Instagram post. If Simone truly believes that I called our team lazy and lacking talent and if that’s really how she feels, I am really heartbroken over it."
"But not just heartbroken because it isn’t what I feel or even how I previously said, but because Simone’s latest post and others that followed it fueled another wave of hateful comments, DMs, articles, and emails," MyKayla said. "Hate that includes death threats to me, my family, and even my agent. My family and my friends don’t deserve to be caught in the crossfire here. They’ve done nothing."
