Maria Menounos' Mother Dies After Long Battle with COVID & Cancer

Entertainment journalist and TV host Maria Menounos is mourning the loss of her mother after a tough battle with COVID-19 in the midst of her battle with brain cancer. Menounos just made the devastating announcement Sunday afternoon, and pointed out the significance of her mother passing on the holiday of Greek Easter, which is recognized by many Orthodox churches on May 2 instead of April.

"RIP mom. ? god loved her so much he took her on greek easter," Menounos wrote to her near 1 million followers while showing herself sprawled out over her mother's bed.

Menounos and her family had previously revealed her mother's diagnosis with stage 4 brain cancer.

Within minutes of Maria Menounos revealin the tragic loss of her mother, comments and flooded in giving the TV star support, including messages from her celebrity friends.

Former WWE superstar, Nikki Bella, wrote: "RIP ❤️ sending you and the fam so much love light and prayers," while actress Heather Dubrow commented that she was "sending love."

"So sorry for your loss Maria! You were an amazing daughter throughout her life and more so these last years! Love and prayers to you and your family!" another fan wrote to Menounos.

Just hours before Maria Menounos' mom died, the TV host had updated fans that she was celebrating Easter with her mother and held up a candle while recognizing the sacred holiday.

"Watching st. Marks in boca w/mom online & even got to light a candle through their site. This is the photo they send of it when they light it. Happy easter to all who celebrate,"

Shortly after her mother's death, Maria paid homage by writing out "Christ is risen, Mom," in Greek scripture.

While Maria Menounos' mother battled in the hospital over the past weeks, her father has also been hospitalized with COVID in a separate facility. The star recently put together a video chronicling the difficult journey in the hopes of helping others in similar situations.

"Two severely immune comprised parents, two different hospitals, both with covid. Definitely the challenge of my life. I documented every step and put this little piece together, 'mom, dad, covid and me' in hopes it will help you and or inspire you," Menounos explained.
