Sarah Hyland Slammed With Lawsuit By Ex Manager Over 'Modern Family' Earnings

Sarah Hyland is locking horns with her former manager, who sued her over her "Modern Family" paychecks.

This legal dispute arises because her ex-manager claims he was unfairly cut out of those hefty earnings despite years of representation. Hyland, who gained stardom as the fast-talking Haley Dunphy, reportedly started the show earning $15,000 per episode, with her salary soaring to $125,000 by the series' end.

As financial tensions spill into the courts, Sarah Hyland will be fighting to protect what she believes is rightfully hers.

Richard Konigsberg, who represented Hyland for 15 years, says he played a key role in securing her breakout role on the hit sitcom—and he wants what he believes is his fair share.

Konigsberg alleges that during his tenure as the actress's personal and professional manager, they had an agreement: he would receive 10% of all income she made from projects he helped her land.

According to documents obtained, Konigsberg claims Hyland abruptly ended their professional relationship in April. The embittered manager believes this move was an attempt to dodge his commission on a few major projects, including her lucrative sitcom earnings. 

The lawsuit also reveals that Hyland told him he would only be entitled to 10% of her earnings from her role in "Little Shop of Horrors," cutting him out of her other income streams.

Now, Konigsberg is seeking damages and asking the court to declare that Hyland is legally obligated to pay him 10% of all her earnings from projects she secured while under his management, per TMZ.

It is no surprise that Hyland's paychecks became a point of contention, as salaries for the "Modern Family" cast saw a dramatic increase over the series' 11 seasons.

In a July report by Screen Rant, it was revealed that adult stars like Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet, and Ty Burrell earned a massive $500,000 per episode by the final season.

Playing Haley Dunphy, the rebellious and fast-talking teenager, Hyland began the series making about $15,000 per episode, according to Cosmopolitan. 

However, like her co-stars, the 33-year-old's earnings surged over the years, with Looper reporting that by season 4, she was making around $70,000 per episode. 

By the time season 11 rolled around, her paycheck ballooned to $125,000 per episode, a far cry from her early days on the show.

The cast of the award-winning sitcom did not just see their popularity soar over the show's 11-season run—their paychecks skyrocketed, too. While Hyland's earnings increased dramatically over the years, she was not the only one cashing in on the success of the hit sitcom.

Sofia Vergara, who played Gloria Delgado-Pritchett, started out making between $30,000 and $65,000 per episode. Her character, known for her fiery personality and Colombian backstory, quickly became a fan favorite. 

By the time the show wrapped, Vergara was raking in at least $500,000 per episode, a testament to her star power and the show's success. Ed O'Neill, who played Jay Pritchett, Vergara's on-screen husband, started out earning significantly more than the rest of the cast. 

Known for his iconic role in "Married…With Children," O'Neill initially negotiated a salary of about $105,000 per episode, as reported by CheatSheet. 

However, in a show of solidarity, O'Neill later renegotiated his salary along with the rest of the adult cast, ending up with $500,000 per episode, just like his fellow actors.

Hyland's off-screen life has been anything but quiet lately. Just before finding herself in a legal showdown with her former manager, she joined the unfortunate club of celebrities whose homes have been burglarized.

In August, The Blast reported that the TV personality's home was broken into while she was out of town. The thieves reportedly smashed a glass window to gain entry, triggering her security system. 

Shockingly, Hyland watched the crime unfold live on her phone, seeing two masked intruders walk right out her front door. Despite the immediate response from the police, the burglars were long gone by the time they arrived.

The police also searched her home to ensure no one was still inside. Since Hyland was away at the time, the investigation into the missing items and their value remained on hold.

Hyland's stunning two-story farmhouse in Studio City was purchased for $3.92 million. The luxurious home, built in 2018, features five bedrooms and six and a half bathrooms and is sprawling across nearly 6,000 square feet.

The home's stylish interior boasts a kitchen with a large center island, white cabinetry, and dark countertops. The master suite on the second floor includes vaulted ceilings, a fireplace, and French doors that open onto a private balcony. 

The mansion also offers high-end amenities, such as a theater with stadium seating and a gorgeous blue pool with an inset spa.

With big money at stake, this courtroom clash is set to put Sarah Hyland's off-screen life in the spotlight once again.
