Valerie Bertinelli Gets Real About A Giant Lifestyle Change

Actress and kitchen extraordinaire Valerie Bertinelli has always been candid with her fans and followers, and she isn't stopping now!

The 64-year-old "One Day At A Time" star has chronicled her relationship with food within the public eye for decades. She is the author of three memoirs that largely focus on her journey with eating, weight, and giving herself grace along the way.

Now, the newest member of 'The Drew Barrymore Show" crew is opening up about another former mainstay in her life she's had to kick to the curb.

Earlier this summer, the Food Network alumna posted a selfie to her Instagram.

Doing so isn't out of the ordinary for the actress, except this particular selfie commemorated a special event in the author's life: she was celebrating half a year without drinking alcohol!

The star captioned the photo, "Six months. No alcohol."

The snap contains several likes, including Bravo's Andy Cohen. Some of Bertinelli's followers even shared their personal stories with alcohol in the comments section.

Bertinelli recently tackled many personal topics in an interview with People Magazine. When alcohol was mentioned, the actress cited a universal factor in our lives that we all deal with sooner or later: aging.

The actress explained, "I actually think it has a lot to do with aging," Bertinelli began. "I think the older you get, the less you really want to really be putting that in your body. I mean, anybody can do whatever the heck they want, but I feel better," she continued.

The "Touched By An Angel" actress uses her Instagram quite often. Bertinelli regularly posts both stories and photos. As of this writing, she has over one million followers!

Having millions of followers on your platform definitely guarantees lots of conversation. Fans flooded the comments section of Bertinelli's July post with their commentary.

"Completely curiosity —did you use the '12 steps' or is this a different approach? Genuinely interested and not trying to stir up controversy," one curious follower asked.

"Good for you. You’re not missing anything and gaining everything!! Way to go beautiful," another congratulated the star.

"It makes a difference in skin, body and mind but dang one needs a cocktail once in a while," a fan joked.

"Better person than me.....I ain't quitting," an honest fan admitted.

Bertinelli has held many titles during her decades-long career in show biz, including actress, author, and TV show host. The star recently announced another as "lifestyle expert" on Drew Barrymore's hit talk show!

The one-time "Boston Legal" guest star had some more good news to share with her followers recently explaining that she'll be hanging with Barrymore, perhaps teaching fans some tips and tricks on nabbing the life of their dreams.

According to Today, Bertinelli's title of "lifestyle expert" entails she will be "going to New York a lot to hang out with Drew and see where that takes me," adding she was "super excited" to be part of the team and for her new job.

Bertinelli also added she "absolutely adores" Barrymore and her crew, calling them "so flippin' cool."

The new season of "The Drew Barrymore Show" premiered on September 9th!

Bertinelli not only has a new TV show in her life but also a new beau!

Earlier this spring, the budding "lifestyle expert" finally unveiled the identity of her new man to her Instagram followers. Bertinelli revealed she had been seeing writer Mike Goodnough, as The Blast previously reported. Before her romance with Goodnough, the actress went through a difficult divorce.

In the caption of an Instagram photo, featuring the actress giving her man a kiss, Bertinelli jokes that Goodnough took the glowing pic despite not being a fan of backlighting.

She also cracked a joke for her man's sweet birthday post, "If there’s one thing about Mike (there are many things) he’s not fond of backlighting. I, on the other hand, think backlighting is beautiful. As evidenced by this picture…that Mike took. Sometimes it pays to listen to your elders."
