Despite being the reigning scream queen of her generation, even Jenna Ortega has her fears.
The "Wednesday" and "Scream" star, known for taking on some of Hollywood’s scariest roles, recently opened up about the one movie that sends chills down her spine.
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Jenna Ortega revealed that there's a classic horror film that still haunts her to this day.
Jenna Ortega Recalls The First Time She Watched 'Child's Play'
Even the "Scream Queen" herself gets scared sometimes as she reveals that there's a classic horror film that terrifies her.
"I think the first movie that terrified me was 'Child's Play.' Chucky, oh god," she told host Jimmy Fallon. "[I was] four or five years old. I remember I accidentally watched it. I was peeking around the corner cause I was very stubborn, and my parents were gone at parent-teacher night, and my uncle was watching us."
"They couldn't find me for 30 minutes because I was rocking back and forth in a corner like 'he's gonna get me,'" she continued. "[I] swear to god, I was in my sibling's closet."
Ortega admitting that this particular film has haunted her for years just proves that even scream queens can get scared.
Jenna Ortega Opens Up About 'Beetlejuice 2'
Jenna Ortega joined the cast of "Beetlejuice 2," the long-awaited sequel to Tim Burton's cult classic "Beetlejuice." Ortega took on the key role of Lydia Deetz's daughter, bringing her signature dark, quirky style to the iconic world of the film.
Before the film's release, the 21-year-old sat down with Vanity Fair to discuss her "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" character, Astrid. She described the role as “weird, but in a different way and not in the way you’d assume, I would say.”
“The relationship between Lydia and Astrid, my character, is very important,” she said of her character's relationship with Winona Ryder's character. “And it’s also really strange because it’s a lot of catching up and putting the pieces together of what’s gone on in Lydia’s life since, which is nice, I think, for anybody who loves the character and is excited to see her again.”
Jenna Ortega Recalls First Seeing 'Beetlejuice'
When speaking to The New York Times, Ortega reflected back on the first time she watched the first classic.
And while she "can’t really put a date on it," she feels like she had to have seen it "maybe when [I] was 8 or 9."
"I was terrified of everything when I was younger. I actually had a recurring nightmare about 'Beetlejuice.' I saw a really terrible Halloween costume before I really knew what the movie was," she said. "And I think that the mold and smearing, bleeding green and black Party City makeup gave me a scare. I just remember that image, and then I watched the movie later, and I thought, Oh, man, this is what the guy was dressed as. This is just as scary."
Jenna Ortega Didn't Watch 'Quiet On Set,' But Her Mom Did
While the actress did not watch the bombshell documentary about Nickelodeon child stars, her mom did and she called Ortega about it.
"I think for her, it was more pain, because she had seen the way that other children maybe weren’t protected or weren’t as looked after," Ortega said. "She watched over me like a hawk, so I think for her, it was more empathizing and wishing she somehow could have done something to help. She just called me saying she was so grateful that things were OK and that she was there to witness everything."
"Child acting is strange," the actress continued. "I see why my parents felt so hesitant about it, because you’re putting a child in an adult workplace ... Children aren’t supposed to be working like that. They are supposed to be climbing trees and drawing and going to school."
Jenna Ortega Has A Way Of Protecting Herself While In The Spotlight
Jenna Ortega may be one of Hollywood’s brightest rising stars, but she’s learned how to protect herself while navigating the intense pressures of fame.
"This is terrible to say, because I think my publicist might be listening to this, but I do avoid the phone as much as I can," she admitted. "I’m always walking. If you’re ever wondering what I’m doing, if my parents are ever wondering, if I’m not at work, or in some sort of meeting, I am outside doing laps. I am in a random garden, I am laying, taking a nap in a field."
