"Dancing With the Stars" pro Val Chmerkovskiy is sharing his thoughts on brother Maks Chmerkovskiy’s recent remarks regarding Anna Delvey.

Delvey, who gained fame as Anna Sorokin, was cast on this season of "Dancing With the Stars," and fan reactions have been varied.

Known to the public as the “Fake Heiress,” Delvey was sentenced to 12 years in prison after being convicted in 2019 on one count of attempted grand larceny, three counts of grand larceny, and four counts of theft.

After serving time, Anna Delvey was released on parole in 2021 and will now complete the remainder of her sentence under house arrest.

Shortly after the show announced that Anna Delvey would be competing in this season of the ABC competition show, fans immediately bashed the casting team.

"So are we saying committing crimes and wearing an ankle monitor is a new fashion? Wtf are we promoting?" one individual expressed after the news broke.

"Who’s ever idea it was to have her on the show… bad idea," another said after seeing her "DWTS" debut.

"Just, no. The number of people who deserved this spot but didn’t get it because of her infuriates me. Ezra deserved better. The viewers deserved better," someone else said.

Fans of the show are not the only ones to voice their disappointment with the casting decision. Former pro Maks Chmerkovskiy recently went on TMZ's podcast to discuss the show.

“I can see both sides. I can also be on the production side, and I can be on the viewer side and understand it all,” he said. “But if you want an ankle [bracelet] and sort of this, ‘Damn, this is going to draw attention,’ and the scandalousness of it all – I mean, there are so many other people you can choose from.”

The former pro called Anna “a professional liar” before slamming her dance performance. “She wasn’t great,” he said, referring to her cha-cha dance.

“Hold on a second — didn’t she con people into believing she was, like, fully fashion this and special like that? And that takes a lot of guts,” he continued. “It takes a lot of self-control to present yourself a certain way, even if you’re so nervous. I don’t buy this ‘she was nervous’ stuff. She’s a sh-tty dancer, and [her] personality is not really going to help her in this competition.”

Following the "DWTS" live show on Tuesday, September 24, Val spoke to Us Weekly about his brother's recent comments.

“He has his opinion,” Val said. “Whether I share his opinion or not, that’s not my quote, and that’s not my position to talk about it.”

Delvey was eliminated during the second episode of the competition show. “First of all, shout-out to Ezra, her pro, who did an amazing job,” Val said of Delvey's professional dance partner. “I think she worked hard, and she did well — and that’s it.”

Val went on to acknowledge that Delvey's past has “nothing to do with her presently doing 'Dancing With the Stars,'” but he does “understand where [Maks] is coming from."

Anna Delvey's Blunt Response To Being Eliminated

On Tuesday night, the 33-year-old convicted con artist was sent packing from the September 24 episode of "Dancing with the Stars." When host Julianne Hough asked her what she was taking away from her experience on the show, she responded candidly, “Nothing.”

Her professional partner, Ezra Sosa, seemed taken aback by her blunt response, raising his eyebrows in surprise. Hough, on the other hand, chuckled and brushed it off before wrapping up the episode.

The Russian-born con artist made waves in the headlines for masquerading as a wealthy socialite in New York City. In 2019, Delvey's web of fraudulent schemes finally unraveled, leading to her arrest and subsequent conviction for theft and grand larceny.

She was ultimately sentenced to four to twelve years in prison for her crimes, which included grand larceny and theft of services.

Her sensational story captured the media’s attention and eventually inspired Netflix's hit series "Inventing Anna," which dramatizes her life of crime.

“She fuels the curiosity because she's still a mystery," "DWTS" judge Derek Hough told E! News. “If I'm honest with you, even after last night, I was like, ‘I don't quite understand you yet, but I want to know more.’”

"Dancing With the Stars" is broadcast on ABC and Disney+ every Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.
