Kanye West is known as one of the greatest artists of all-time along with being an icon in the fashion realm. He’s been winning big over the years with his Yeezy sneakers and apparel as well as last summer, when he inked a 10-year deal with GAP. Now, he is making another power move in the fashion industry and this is to honor the late DMX and to help out X’s family as well. This is also in partnership with Balenciaga.
Kanye Pulls In $1 Million For DMX Balenciaga Shirts For X’s Family
Ye and Balenciaga got together to create custom DMX shirts, as proceeds will be going to X’s family. The shirt displays X’s day of birth and the day he died on the sleeves. On the front side, X’s face is shown as the wording includes “RIP DMX.” As expected, these shirts have already sold out in 24 hours and the revenue earned is at an impressive amount. According to TMZ, sales have reached over $1 million. The shirts were initially being sold at $200 each.
Kanye’s Sunday Service Choir Performed At DMX’s Funeral
DMX’s funeral was finally held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, on April 24. Kanye was asked to perform at the memorial and this ended up happening as he also brought his Sunday Service choir. They did an amazing job as usual as they’ve been performing together all across the country over the last three years. Kanye ended up getting visual artist, Akeem Smith, to help design the stage, which was very unique with its pyrmamid-like setup for the performance.
DMX’s Funeral Was Also Held In NYC On Sunday
Saturday’s memorial service went on to include speakers such as Swizz Beatz and Nas, two fellow New York legends. Sunday’s service featured a memorial with friends and family members in New York City. There was some very touching moments such as when X’s ex-wife, Tashera Simmons, smoke. On stage, she also showed love to X’s fiancee, Desiree Lindstrom. The two gave each other hugs on stage as they celebrated X’s memory together. Tashera called Desiree a “woman of God” and applauded the love that she had for X.
DMX Passed Away Earlier This Month
On April 2, DMX’s health started to deteriorate after he suffered a heart attack from an apparent drug overdose. He was soon taken to a hospital in White Plains, NY, where he was placed on life support. X’s brain function unfortunately didn’t improve over the past week and that’s when his family sadly had to make the decision to take him off of life support. Irv Gotti, who helped X blow up in the late 1990s, also recently revealed that X took a “bad dose of crack” which contained fentanyl in it.
