Roan recently appeared in an interview with The Guardian, where she discussed her life, career, and political views ahead of the upcoming U.S. presidential election.

The singer and songwriter is now facing backlash from her fans on social media for failing to endorse either top presidential candidate.

During the interview, Roan said, "I have so many issues with our government in every way. There are so many things that I would want to change."

However, she said she doesn't feel any pressure to endorse either Kamala Harris or Donald Trump because there are "problems on both sides."

"I encourage people to use your critical thinking skills, use your vote—vote small, vote for what's going on in your city," she said.

Roan's refusal to endorse Harris angered fans because the VP made it clear she was a fan of the singer and once used her track "Femininomenon" in a campaign video.

Many expressed their disappointment on X (formerly Twitter). One tweet read, "I love Chappel but this one has been TOUGH to get over because it's so uneducated."

Another fan said, "Every time Chappell opens her mouth again, she gets worse and worse; how can you be part of the LGBTQ+ community and have tone-deaf sh-t like this to say so loudly."

Some fans defended Roan, saying she has a right not to endorse any party. One such post read, "The internet needs to leave Chappell alone. Omfg, she literally didn't say anything wrong' and 'I'm so f-cking done with the Chappell hate."

Chappell Roan Was Diagnosed With 'Severe Depression'

Roan's decision to abstain from politics may be related to her recent revelations about being diagnosed with severe depression.

The singer told the Guardian that she's been in therapy to help her adjust to her new celebrity status and was shocked by the diagnosis because she doesn't feel "sad."

She said, "I'm in therapy twice a week. I went to a psychiatrist last week because I was like, I don't know what's going on. She diagnosed me with severe depression – which I didn't think I had because I'm not actually sad. But I have every symptom of someone who's severely depressed."

Roan further explained that she believes her depression and other problems are due to the significant changes in her life over a short period.

"I think it's because my whole life has changed," the singer noted. "Everything that I really love to do now comes with baggage. If I want to go thrifting, I have to book security and prepare myself that this is not going to be normal."

In an interview with The Face magazine, Roan discussed the pressures of fame and revealed that she might step away from music if the stress becomes too much.

During the chat, the singer shared a troubling experience she had at the airport when an unknown person tried to get her to sign posters.

According to Roan, the person who was not a fan berated her and threatened her for refusing to sign the posters.

"He's like, 'You should really humble yourself. Do you know where you are right now? Don't forget where you came from," Roan recalled.

The "Hot To Go" singer shared that she was in disbelief during the ordeal and wondered, "What the f-ck" is going on.

While Roan has refused to endorse any candidate, some other stars have shown support for either Trump or Harris.

SpaceX boss Elon Musk, wrestling legend Hulk Hogan, country singer Kid Rock, and media personality Amber Rose are among those supporting the former president.

However, Celebrities like Taylor Swift, Sharon Stone, Mark Cuban, and George Clooney have all shown support for Harris in some way.

Clooney and Trump were recently embroiled in a standoff after the actor wrote a viral op-ed in the New York Times asking Biden to step down to give the Democratic party a real chance at defeating Trump.

"So now fake movie actor George Clooney, who never came close to making a great movie, is getting into the act," Trump wrote on Truth Social at the time, per Variety. "He's turned on Crooked Joe like the rats they both are. What does Clooney know about anything?… Clooney should get out of politics and go back to television. Movies never really worked for him!!!"

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel's late-night talk show, Clooney clapped back at Trump, saying, "I will if he does. That's a trade-off I'd do."
