Two months before his DUI and probation drama, The Blast reported that Margera had scored a significant win in a legal battle. He and his ex-partner Nicole Boyd had been butting heads in court over the legality of their marriage.

However, a judge ruled in Margera's favor in July, agreeing that his marriage to Boyd was not legal under U.S. law. The legality of their marriage came up during the pair's bitter custody battle for their son, Phoenix.

Boyd claimed their 2013 marriage was legal, while Margera had insisted it wasn't. In his argument, he noted that a ceremony occurred in Iceland; however, it wasn't legalized because they failed to obtain a U.S. marriage license.

Following the judge's ruling, Margera gloated about his win while bashing his ex-partner for making him waste money on legal fees. "Nicole knew that we weren't married since day one; it was common knowledge, and it wasn't new information," he insisted.

"Of course, I won because we were never married, but paying a fistful of dollars for a four-day trial about it and acting like she didn't know is a time-consuming pain up my ass, but I'm used to it," Margera added.

Meanwhile, Boyd was dissatisfied with the judge's ruling and considered appealing the verdict. Her attorney, David Glass, shared in an interview that she believed her marriage in Iceland was valid and shouldn't be disregarded.
