Anna Delvey Raises Eyebrows After 'Dancing With The Stars' Remark

Anna Delvey, known as Anna Sorokin, is competing on this season of "Dancing With the Stars," and fans have had mixed reactions.

The Russian-born con artist captured headlines by posing as a wealthy New York socialite. After moving to NYC in 2013, she claimed to be an heiress with a substantial trust fund, allowing her to live a life of luxury funded by deception. Over the years, Delvey managed to swindle banks, friends, and hotels, racking up significant debts while maintaining her extravagant lifestyle.

Now a controversial figure, Anna Delvey continues to make waves with her public comments and appearances, especially as she competes on "Dancing With the Stars."

Delvey and her partner, Ezra Sosa, brought fans behind the scenes with a TikTok video that left their jaws on the floor.

In the clip, Delvey and Sosa are sitting on the dance floor as Sosa is giving Delvey a foot massage. "I'm giving Anna a massage right now because why?" Sosa asked as Delvey chimed in, "Because I've been dancing so hard."

But the comment that really caught people's attention was when Delvey said, “I’ve been sentenced to 'Dancing With the Stars.'"

The clip was shared by another TikTok user, prompting many comments featuring the shocked face emoji and the eyes emoji.

For those unaware, she was sentenced in April 2019 to four to twelve years in prison for her convictions, which included grand larceny and theft of services. In addition to her prison sentence, she was ordered to pay restitution of approximately $199,000 and fined $24,000.

Delvey's audacious schemes included trying to secure a whopping $22 million loan for an arts club and staying in luxury hotels without paying a dime.

In 2019, her fraudulent activities caught up with her, leading to her arrest and eventual conviction for theft and grand larceny. Delvey's story has been a media sensation, inspiring Netflix's hit series "Inventing Anna," which dramatizes her life of crime.

During her trial, the prosecution highlighted how Delvey scammed banks, friends, and hotels, presenting herself as a wealthy socialite while living a lavish lifestyle on borrowed funds. The case drew significant media attention and raised questions about privilege, deception, and the allure of the elite social scene.

After serving her sentence, Delvey was released on parole in early 2021 and now must wear an ankle monitor.

She has gotten special permission to leave her residence and stay in L.A. as she competes on "Dancing With the Stars," but fans are not thrilled with the idea. "Who’s ever idea it was to have her on the show… bad idea," one user said after seeing her "DWTS" debut.

"Since when did we start glorifying felons," another said.

Delvey and first-time "Dancing With the Stars" pro Sosa took the stage on Tuesday’s premiere, delivering a cha-cha to Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso.” The duo dazzled in matching ombré rainbow outfits that complemented Delvey’s sparkling ankle monitor.

Judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli awarded the pair a score of 18 out of 30.

After Delvey finished her first dance, judge Carrie Ann Inaba noted that she felt a noticeable “shift in the energy” in the crowd as the two performed.

“When we go out there and we’re dancing, it’s just us two on the floor, and we honestly don’t [notice the crowd],” Sosa told Us Weekly, claiming that he felt the change. “Even when we finished the dance, we’re not really thinking about applause or anything.”

Delvey then agreed, telling the outlet, “It’s hard to say because we just moved fresh off the stage. I’m not sure what the public’s reaction was yet, so it’s hard to say.”
