Carl Weathers' children will receive significant cash thanks to his six-figure estate.
According to new documents, the court-appointed administrator of the late actor's estate has given the court the green light to proceed with the distribution of Weathers' fortune.
The "Rocky" star's wealth will be split between his two sons, Matthew and Jason Weathers. Carl Weathers took his final breath at 76 on February 2, following a years-long battle with a heart disease.
Inside Carl Weathers' Massive Estate
The court-appointed administrator of Weathers' estate submitted his final report, confirming that the late actor had no outstanding debts. He noted that no creditors came forward seeking money from the estate, and all tax returns had been filed.
The total value of Weathers' estate was listed as $870,053.83. It consisted of two accounts at City National Bank with $147,000 in funds and safety deposit boxes with $664,000 in cash.
Weathers' assets continued with a 2018 GMC Pickup Truck with 19,000 miles on it, which was estimated to be worth $58,000. Per the documents, the administrator asked that the estate be closed and the assets be distributed to the late actor's two sons.
However, Weathers' children would lose a small sum from the estate to cover the administrator's expenses. In Touch noted he asked the court to approve $20,000 in fees for work done and another $20,000 for legal fees.
Weathers Amended His Will Ten Years Before His Death
Weathers reportedly drafted his will in 1988 and amended it in October 2014, a decade before he took his final breath. The Blast reported that he listed his former spouses and two sons as trust beneficiaries in the documents.
The revelation came via Weathers' lawyer, Barry B. Felsen, who filed a petition for probate of the Authorization to Administer Under the Independent Administration of Estates Act and moved to become the administrator of his client's estate in March.
Felsen noted that, per the deceased's will, he was the "proposed executor and successor co-trustee." His petition would allow him to administer Weathers' estate without court supervision.
Additionally, Weathers tasked Felsen, per his will, with paying his burial expenses and any debts incurred before his death. As for his sons, he gifted them his assets, including jewelry, clothes, vehicles, and "other tangible articles of a personal nature."
Weathers Suffered From A Heart Disease
Weathers' death certificate obtained by The Blast revealed he died in his home in Venice, California at 12:18 am. The document listed his official cause of death as "atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease."
The late entertainer reportedly suffered from heart disease for years, leading Investigators to rule his death as "natural." Instead of a burial, Weathers' family chose to cremate him and take his ashes home.
They confirmed the actor's death in a poignant statement, noting: "He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers."
The Late Actor's Family Celebrated His Life And Legacy
In their statement, Weathers' loved ones reflected on his life on and off the big screen. They described him as "an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life," adding:
"Through his contributions to film, television, the arts, and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend."
Weathers was a former professional football player who made his acting debut in the 1970s. He starred in crime dramas before landing his breakout role as Apollo Creed in the "Rocky" franchise.
This role opened the door to fame for Weathers, who appeared in over 75 films and TV shows during his 50-year screen career. However, his role as the talented boxer beside Sylvester Stallone in the "Rocky" movies remains his most known role.
Carl Weathers Made His Final Appearance In A Super Bowl Ad
The Blast previously reported that Weathers filmed a commercial for the Super Bowl that was set to air on February 11, nine days after his death. At the time, FanDuel, the company responsible for the ad, confirmed they would use the late actor.
FanDuel's executive vice president of marketing, Andrew Sneyd, shared the news in a statement, saying, "The family has been very supportive that they would still like to see Carl in the work."
"Since the news of Carl's passing came, we have been working with editors to help us get back to something that does make sense," Sneyd noted about the Super Bowl commercial, adding that they were "viewing edits through tears."
Rest in peace, Carl Weathers.
