Mo Elmasri, the person who claimed to be Janet Jackson's manager, revealed that the singer and her brother, Randy Jackson, have fired him.
His axing comes after a controversial interview where Janet questioned Vice President Kamala Harris' racial identity.
The backlash caused by the remarks prompted Mo Elmasri to issue an apology on Janet Jackson's behalf, which the singer's representatives later clarified as unauthorized.
Mo Elmasri Claims Janet Jackson Has Fired Him Over Kamala Harris Controversy
In a statement to the Daily Beast, Elmasri claimed he was fired over a disagreement that ensued after Janet's misinformed remarks about Kamala Harris.
"Janet Jackson fired me due to disagreements between me, her, and Randy after she met with the Guardian and her unbalanced statements," Elmasri said.
He added that he couldn't elaborate further, citing an overwhelming number of phone calls, but expressed his support for the vice president.
In another statement to Variety, Elmasri referenced his dismissal, explaining that his apology on the singer's behalf was intended to improve Janet's "image in front of public opinion and her fans."
This development took an unexpected turn when Janet's representatives clarified that Elmasri's apology for the "Scream" hitmaker was neither authorized nor issued by the singer.
Janet Jackson Sparked Controversy Over Comments On Vice President Kamala Harris's Racial Identity
In her The Guardian interview, Jackson, while admitting she wasn't well-informed, speculated about Harris' family background and the race of her father,
She said, "Well, you know what they supposedly said? She's not Black. That's what I heard. That she's Indian."
After the interviewer clarified that Harris is of both Black and South Asian descent, the five-time Grammy winner took things a step further by claiming the vice president's father is white.
"Her father's white," Jackson stated. "That's what I was told. I mean, I haven't watched the news in a few days. I was told they discovered her father was white."
The Unauthorized Apology Issued On Janet Jackson's Behalf
Following the backlash from Janet's comment, Elmasri issued an apology on her behalf, which was released through Buzzfeed.
The apology read: "Janet Jackson would like to clarify her recent comments. She recognizes that her statements regarding Vice President Kamala Harris' racial identity were based on misinformation."
It continued, "Janet respects Harris' dual heritage as both Black and Indian and apologizes for any confusion caused. She values the diversity Harris represents and understands the importance of celebrating that in today's society. Janet remains committed to promoting unity and understanding."
However, her representatives clarified to Variety that the statement was issued by someone who was unauthorized to represent her.
The publication also reported that Jackson is currently managed by her brother, Randy. The siblings are said to be taking time from social media to grieve the recent passing of their older brother, Tito, who died last week.
Janet Jackson's Remarks About The VP Mirrored Comments Made By Donald Trump
Jackson's remarks sound similar to the misinformed comments made by the Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump.
Trump questioned Harris' identity during a July event with the National Association of Black Journalists.
He said, "She was always of Indian heritage, and she was promoting Indian heritage. I didn't know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black. So I don't know, is she Indian, or is she Black?"
However, Harris' heritage is well-documented. Her father, Donald Harris, is a Jamaican-American economist who taught at Stanford University, while her late mother, Shyamala Gopalan, was an accomplished breast cancer researcher from southern India.
Both parents immigrated to the U.S. and met while studying at the University of California, Berkeley.
Mo Elmasri Listed As Janet Jackson's Manager On IMDb Despite Claim He Has 'No Connection' To The Singer
According to Deadline, Elmasri is listed as Janet's manager on her IMDb page and appears on another industry site, Celebrity Service, where his status was last verified on September 22.
Elmasri's personal IMDb profile describes him as an Egyptian filmmaker and the founder of 24 East Agency, a consulting firm.
It also claims he serves as a "creative consultant for many global superstars," including Janet Jackson, Beyoncé, Britney Spears, and Selena Gomez.
His film credits include an executive producer role on the upcoming project "Janet Jackson: Family First," though two of his other credits are listed as "uncredited."
However, representatives for Janet told TMZ that Elmasri has "no connection" to the singer. As of now, the pop star has not personally commented on the ongoing controversy.
