Dakota Johnson, best known for her role as Anastasia Steele from the hit movie sires “50 Shades”, has apparently been a busy bee as of late. The 31-year-old actress and model hasn’t really been a hot-topic figure in the media since she appeared in “The Peanut Butter Falcon” (2019) alongside co-star Shia LaBeouf.
That being said, it looks likes Dakota is ramping up to start making new waves as she takes a lead role in an upcoming Netflix show titled “Persuasion”. (A TV adaption of Jane Austen’s best-selling novel with the same name)
Timeless Story
One of the primary reasons that this story by Jane Austen was so popular (gaining large popularity in the late 19th century) is because it was her last completed novel.
Furthermore, it is considered her most experienced piece of content, showing incredible taste and literary skill.
The show could be summarized as a love story and a tale of second chances. The topic itself is highly entertaining, focusing on a middle-aged woman who finds herself drawn to an ex-suiter who has come back into their lives.
Multiple Studios Getting In On It
Coincidentally (or perhaps not), another studio is producing their rendition of a TV adaption for this same story! It has been confirmed that Searchlight Pictures has already enlisted “Succession” actress Sarah Snook to star in the lead role.
The rise in book-to-television adaptions is quite noticeable, with stories by famous authors like Stephen King being among the most famous examples.
Jane Austen’s work is not easily outdone, however, as her books, “Pride And Prejudice”, “Emma” & “Sense And Sensibility”, are considered to be among the best romance novels ever made.
Influencer Actress
Although it is probably that her previous projects were a preface to her landing a lead role in the new “Persuasion” Netflix series, this was likely a lesser factor for Netflix studios.
It has been revealed that studios are actively looking to hire actors who have a large social media following. It makes perfect sense to bring Dakota on board for more than just her experienced acting skills. (Dakota has over 4 million Instagram followers!)
Plus, she has continued to stay active as an actor despite difficulties in 2020 due to Covid.
‘The Thing That I Pulled Most From’
While certainly not her largest film role to date, Dakota recently finished work on an “On-demand” film titled “Our Friend” at the beginning of this year.
She had an interview with CNN shortly after. During that interview Dakota shared poignant details about her experience on the project and the life lessons she’s taking with her.
“The thing that I pulled most from this film was how you show up for other people,” Johnson told CNN. “I think about how I can be more compassionate and more available, even for myself, more compassionate. The thing that I’ve learned so much from this movie and from even talking about it now is how brave you have to be in order to be truly compassionate towards yourself or other people, because it’s scary and you might fail. In Nicole’s case, you do everything that you can and then it’s not going to save her life but it did save everyone else’s life.”
