Unless you have unplugged from social media for a little rest and mental relaxation then chances are you have heard about the drama going down with Demi Lovato and a frozen yogurt shop. Yes, you read that right, Lovato took to social media this week to share her aggravation over a local, small business offering what she considered “diet options” of frozen yogurt. The shop called; the Bigg Chill took a beating from the singer when she posted a caption expressing her distaste for their choice of yogurt options.
“Finding it extremely hard to order Froyo from @TheBiggChillOfficial when you have to walk past tons of sugar-free cookies/other diet foods before you get to the counter.” She accused the store of spreading “harmful messages” and even went as far as to hashtag the company as #DietCultureVultures. The situation has gotten a little out of control with fans and other celebrities sharing their thoughts on the frozen yogurt debacle. Below are the four things you need to know about the situation that went viral.
Demi Felt Triggered
Lovato took the situation extremely personally. The Dancing With The Devil singer has been very open about her struggles with addiction, disordered eating, and abuse in her most recent YouTube documentary also titled Dancing With The Devil. Because of her relationship with food Lovato has been open about food labels and how they can be triggering for many people. Admitting that she is coming from a place of love her comments rubbed a lot of people the wrong way including some other celebrities and fans.
'RHONY' Leah McSweeney Spoke Up
Lovato received a lot of backlash for her comments but one that made the rounds was a video posted by one of the Real Housewives of New York City’s newest cast members Leah McSweeney. The reality star posted a video expressing how upset that she was and disappointed that someone as popular as Lovato would use her platform that incudes millions of followers to trash a small, local business. She acknowledged that Lovato felt triggered, but she stressed that society is not responsible for her being triggered. Yikes.

The Yogurt Shop Said Their Piece
The yogurt shop in question, the Bigg Chill has spoken out about their business and the decision to run their shop the way they do. In an Instagram post, they wrote, “We carry items for Diabetics, Celiac disease, Vegan and of course have many indulgent items as well.” This is a regular practice for the shop. The item in particular that Lovato was upset about was the sugar-free cookies she had to pass by as she went to pay for her yogurt. She felt that the brand's name “Eat Me Guilt Free” made eating sugar seem reprehensible.
Demi Apologized
Lovato ultimately felt the crushing weight of upset from fans and a few celebs she decided to clarify her statement and issue an apology to the business.
However, within that apology, she made it clear that her “intuition” led her to say something publicly. “My intuition said speak up about this, so I did. And I feel good about that. What I don’t feel good about is some of the way it’s been interpreted and how the message has gotten misconstrued.” She went on to highlight while her message came out wrong, she meant what she said about being triggered. “This is a hard thing to live with on a daily basis," she honestly shared and promised, “I’m standing up for anyone who struggles in LA.”
