The Duchess, who’s expecting her second child, a daughter, decided to stay back in California with her first son, Charlie. However, she has openly expressed her support and love to Queen, following her recent loss.
Although many have been wondering why Markle did not fly to London for the funeral, Harry gave a detailed explanation for this decision in a recent statement.

Prince Harry Pays Final Respect To His Grandfather
A representative of the former royals, revealed to “HollywoodLife,” that Prince Harry would touchdown in London a few days before the funeral.
The rep also revealed that the prince was in town to pay his final respects to his grandfathe, whom he loved and respected.
When the prince arrived, it was confirmed that he first visited his former home, which is now occupied by Princess Eugenie, her husband, Jack Brooksbank and their new-born son, August.
This was also the first time that Harry met his lovely nephew.
The Real Reason For Markle’s Absence
As expected, many have attributed the former royal’s absence at the funeral, to the recent interview she held with Oprah Winfrey.
They believe that the Duchess would not be welcome by the royals because she openly put them on a blast during the interview.
The couple’s rep informed HollywoodLife, that Markle‘s doctors did not give her the go-ahead to travel overseas. This is because they took into account the risk of putting her unborn child in harm’s way, due to COVID-19.
“The Duchess has made every effort to travel alongside the Duke, but unfortunately, she did not receive medical clearance from her physician,” the rep noted.
A Profound Tribute
Following the news of the Duke of Edinburgh’s death, Markle and Prince Harry took to their official website page, to pay tribute to the prince.
They wrote; “In loving memory of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. Thank you for your service, you will be greatly missed.”
Price Harry’s trip to London received mixed feelings from fans all over the world. Coupled with the sadness of Prince Philip’s demise, many were anxious to see if Harry would reconcile with his brother, Prince William.
Prince Philip’s Final Wish Honored
On April 17, 2021, Prince Philip was laid to rest at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, in the presence of his wife, Queen Elizabeth II and other members of his immediate family.
Per “Cheatsheet,” the funeral process strictly adhered to the British COVID-19 guidelines and had a guest list of only 30 people. According to Forbes, the prince’s final wish was that he spent his final peaceful moments in his home.
