Birthday Gift TikTok Video Leads To Epic Backstage Moment With Childish Gambino

A few months ago, 14-year-old Kamilah got a huge birthday surprise from her family. It became the gift that kept on giving thanks to her mom’s TikTok video.

When Kamilah received tickets to see Childish Gambino in concert, she couldn’t have expected what would happen next. After her mom shared her gift-opening experience in a TikTok video, Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, saw it and responded. And the gifts didn’t stop there!

After Kamilah’s mom, Erica, shared a video of her daughter opening her birthday gifts on TikTok, it grabbed tons of attention and opened up more unexpected gifts for Kamilah.

The video shows Kamila opening up Chipotle bags and containers because she asked for Chipotle for her birthday.

“Kamilah only asked for Chipotle for her birthday because her and her siblings all have birthdays in the same week. She's so considerate and knew how financially taxing that can be on us," Erica told The Blast exclusively. "I wanted to make sure she got that and so much more because she deserves it."

The first gift Kamilah got was a Chipotle bouquet that her mom personally made for her. She then pulled out some more gifts, rather than the food she was expecting. A few gifts into the experience, and it was time for the big surprise.

"She had been asking about the tickets since Childish Gambino announced his tour and it was definitely her big wish to go," Erica told The Blast. "Kamilah has been listening to him since she was a toddler because we would play '3005' on repeat when it first came out. So I figured the tickets would make the ultimate birthday gift."

It didn’t take long after posting the video that Kamilah and Erica’s notifications began blowing up. Kamilah got notifications that her friends were tagging her in a video, and Erica got a DM that started the next phase of Kamilah’s birthday fun.

Glover shared Kamilah’s video and added to it.

“That's really wholesome. That's great," he said in his TikTok video. "I'll have my assistant reach out. If you guys want a copy of the new project a little early, we can do that. But also, when we're in town, when we're in the city, if you and your daughter and your family want to come backstage and get some stuff signed, we can do that, too. But I hope you're having a good day."

The DM from Glover’s assistant surprised the family.

“We just couldn’t believe that he actually saw the video,” Erica said. “I never thought in a million years that something this cool could happen. I just wanted to share her special day with our TikTok and IG family, as we usually do. This feels like a dream."

While the family had to wait a few months to attend the concert, it seemed well worth the wait!

Erica exclusively told The Blast that the “concert was amazing.” 

“We were on our feet the entire time!” she said. “From the special effects to the set list, it definitely surpassed our expectations.” 

And then there was the backstage experience after the show. 

“He kept his word and we got to meet him after the concert,” Erica said. “The meeting went really well. I couldn’t believe he still had energy to meet us after the amazing concert he gave. He took time to sign merch and talk to us.”

Kamilah’s response to being backstage was so heartwarming it was like a gift for her family for taking her to the concert.

“My daughter was overwhelmed with emotions. She couldn’t believe she was meeting one of her favorite artists,” Erica told The Blast. 

She continued by sharing what the best part of the entire experience was.

“The best part was seeing the look on my daughter’s face when we met him," she said. "He really helped us make a lasting memory for her and our entire family.” 

The family loved the concert and the backstage experience and wants others to know that Glover is “such a nice guy and a humble guy that keeps his word.” 

Kamilah added, “He is exactly like how he presents himself online and on TV. He’s a very down-to-earth guy. He gave us hugs and even chatted with us for a bit. I still can’t believe I got to meet him.”

Erica shared a video of the experience on TikTok captioned, "We've been blessed with so many cool opportunities since becoming content creators 4 years ago but this !! takes the cake! I just want to help create lasting memories for my babies because they only get to have one childhood."

Her video was a reminder to everyone to share your content on social media.

"So you know that video that's been collecting dust in your drafts? Yeah. This is your sign to post it," she said. "So if you've been following us, you know that I surprised Kam with tickets to Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino's new world tour featuring Willow Smith. When I tell you that I rub my last two nickels together to get these tickets."

The video continued to share the family's heartfelt story and experience at the concert.
