Dolly Parton has been a part of the music industry for decades now and although she started out as a child star, she grew to become one of the most prolific singers in the world.
In her years of being in the industry, she has witnessed the things that could go wrong with a person, when they involve either drugs or alcohol or both in their daily routines.
She has also seen what these substances did to people in her family, and that’s why she made a decision to stay clear away from them the best way she can.
Parton is a strong anti-drug and alcohol use and she’s proud of this choice.
Her Real Thoughts On Alcohol & Drugs
When it comes to drinking, Parton has never had any keen interest in it, and doing drugs is just going way off-script to her, so she keeps her best distance.
On both sides of her family, she watched how alcoholism destroyed many things and for her, it’s not just worth it.
In her book titled “Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics,” she wrote; “Alcohol is the number on killer.”
She went on to say that some people are oblivious of the fact that it’s like a drug that can turn into an addiction.
“I’ve seen a lot of sorrows, because alcoholism runs on both sides of my family,” she wrote.
What Can Alcoholism Cause According To Parton?
In her opinion, alcoholism is so bad, that when it manages to get the attention of one individual, other people suffer from it.
Fans have heard stories about celebrities whose father or mother, was a stunt alcoholic, and the children had to suffer for it.
In some cases, alcoholism has not only caused a parent to physically torment their kids, it has also been responsible for turning a once beautiful marriage, into a divorce.
So, in essence, Parton is convinced that when one person becomes an alcoholic, he or she unknowingly puts people around him or her through difficult situations.
Porter Wagoner Was No Drinker
Back in the day, when a band becomes very successful and have to go on several tours, they celebrate. And one of the fastest ways to do that, is to pop bottles of champagne.
However, in some cases, it has gotten so bad that a band member or the entire group, starts to lose their focus because of their intake of alcohol and drugs.
Well, this was not Porter Wagoner’s band. According to Parton, the group always kept a straight head when they were on tour.
Parton first became exposed to the world of music when she joined “The Porter Wagoner Show,” as a singer. She also went on tour with the band and during that time, she never saw them drink alcohol.
Patton’s Songs About Stopping Alcoholism
Some people say that until you have lived it, before you can speak about it. Well, Parton has lived with and around alcoholics for her to know that it’s not the best choice to take.
She wrote a few songs about alcoholism back when she was with Wagoner’s band. She could relate to the experience and wanted everyone to know that they could overcome it.
Many celebrities in the industry, have openly spoken about their addiction to alcohol and drugs. Although it was not an easy step to take, they decided to get clean for themselves and the people they loved.
