Justin Timberlake seems to have the best guardian angel as he is getting off his DWI case with a slap on the wrist.
The Prince of Pop was arrested in June for driving while intoxicated, but thanks to a plea deal, he will not be charged for the crime. Instead, prosecutors agreed to hold him accountable for a traffic violation.
Justin Timberlake's arrest made waves for several reasons, with the singer refusing to plead guilty while his driving privileges were temporarily suspended.
Justin Timberlake Bags New Charge Following DWI Dismissal
According to new reports, Timberlake's lawyer, Edward Burke Jr., and prosecutors recently got the judge presiding over the DWI case to sign off on their plea deal. Per their agreement, the DWI charge has officially been dropped.
Instead, Timberlake got slapped with a Driving While Ability Impaired charge. The word "impaired" did not make the crime a drunk driving offense, and the singer only has to pay a fine of about $300 to $500.
TMZ reported that the judge is expected to announce the fine in a hearing on Friday when the plea deal is officially before the court. Timberlake's driver's license remains suspended in New York because he refused to take a breathalyzer test.
Prosecutors Subpoenaed The Hotel In Timberlake's DWI Case
A month before his DWI charge was dismissed, prosecutors served the American Hotel in Sag Harbor, New York, with a subpoena for evidence. The Blast noted the venue was dragged into the case because Timberlake drank there hours before his arrest.
According to prosecutors, the subpoena was to collect information from the hotel about Timberlake's drinking. They wished to check if the venue's narrative would match the singer's claims about the night of his arrest.
He reportedly told the police officers who pulled him over that he had only "one martini." The hotel's version of what happened that night was crucial in determining how much Timberlake drank.
As stated, the 43-year-old refused to take a breathalyzer test during his arrest while his attorney claimed he wasn't intoxicated that night. Nonetheless, it led to the suspension of his driving privileges.
The Prince Of Pop Was Absent At A Hearing
During the DWI case, Timberlake appeared virtually for a hearing on August 2 but skipped out on the next session a week later. In that hearing, Judge Carl Irace suspended his driver's license under state regulations.
The judge explained that Timberlake's refusal to take a breathalyzer test temporarily suspended his driving privileges for a year. The aftermath came at the heels of the singer's innocent stance.
During the August 2 hearing, the Prince of Pop appeared virtually from Belgium to plead not guilty in the DWI case. At the time, his attorney had been trying to get the charge dismissed, citing errors in the paperwork signed by police from his arrest.
Burke Jr. argued that the document was signed by a part-time cop instead of a supervising officer. He also noted that the Sag Harbor Police sergeant should have been present.
Timberlake's Wife Was Reportedly Displeased By His Arrest
Timberlake's DWI case sparked trouble in his household, with The Blast reporting that sources claimed his wife, Jessica Biel, was upset. She was displeased by the negative attention their family received, causing the singer to do a 180.
To appease Biel, Timberlake vowed to "clean up his act," with the insider noting: "Part of Justin's mea culpa to Jessica was to admit that he'd gotten into some bad habits and that he needs to dial everything way back."
"He was busted with a vape pen, which is a big worry because of the [effect] it can have on his lungs," the source continued, adding: "So he's now agreed to totally ditch that for good, and he's gone pretty much cold turkey on the booze, too."
Justin Timberlake Had A Hard Time Quitting Alcohol
According to the insider, dialing back on alcohol was a challenging journey for Timberlake. "It's not been easy," they claimed, noting he enjoyed "a glass of wine at dinner or on special occasions."
"He's admitted to his friends that it's very boring because there's nothing to take the edge off, especially when he's out on the road," the informant added. They explained that Timberlake tried to avoid drinking by working out at the gym and playing video games.
"As far as vices go, they're all gone — and, as anyone knows, it can [be] a big adjustment period. But he's promised his wife to clean up his act, and he's sticking to it, no matter how tough it gets," the source claimed.
With the recent win in his DWI case, Justin Timberlake has another reason to stay sober, or will he celebrate with a glass of wine?
