A police officer is pushing for reinstatement after his involvement in the Sunday detainment of Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill. Meanwhile, Hill’s agent is calling for the officers involved to be fired.

The NFL star found himself in a sticky situation on Sunday, September 8, just hours before his team's season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Despite the off-field drama, Hill hit the field and scored a third-quarter touchdown during the season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Just one day after the incident, the release of body cam footage has ignited a firestorm of criticism against the Miami-Dade PD and the officers involved.

Tyreek Hill’s agent is now speaking out, calling for the officers to be fired as the backlash intensifies.

Body Cam Footage Of Tyreek Hill's Detainment Released To The Public

Hill was stopped for speeding en route to Hard Rock Stadium just hours before the Dolphins' season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. According to the South Florida Police Benevolent Association, the police union representing Miami-Dade PD, Hill was "uncooperative" with officers, which they say led to the situation escalating.

The release of body cam footage on Monday evening reveals the escalation in Hill’s traffic stop. After a brief verbal altercation with the officer who pulled him over, Hill was instructed to exit his vehicle. However, the situation took a turn when a separate officer forcibly removed the Dolphins star from the car and “redirected” him to the ground.

The same officer who initially pulled Hill out of his car then handcuffed him while kneeling on his back. Just a minute later, after Hill was told to sit on the sidewalk, the officer forcibly pushed him to the ground again.

Police Officer Demands 'Immediate Reinstatement'

Attorneys Ignacio Alvarez of ALGO Law Firm and Israel Reyes of The Reyes Law Firm, who represent the Miami-Dade officer, issued a statement Monday demanding "immediate reinstatement" for their client, per ESPN. They called the decision to put the officer on administrative duty "premature" but agreed with the department’s call for a full review.

While the attorneys didn’t name their client, Miami-Dade PD confirmed the officer is Danny Torres, a 27-year veteran. The legal team remained tight-lipped on whether their statement was made before or after the release of the body cam footage on Monday.

Tyreek Hill's Agent Speaks Out

On a recent appearance on "The Dan Le Batard Show," Tyreek Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, didn’t hold back his frustration, blasting the officers for their handling of Hill. Rosenhaus expressed his deep disgust over the way his client was treated.

"For me, personally, I believe the police officers that did that to Tyreek shouldn't be in that position -- they should be let go," Rosenhaus said, per ESPN. "Look at the guy who kicked him -- that guy should be fired. That's out of control. The guy that jumped in and put him in a chokehold? There's no place for a police officer to have a badge that operates like that, when Tyreek wasn't being aggressive, or violent or fighting back in any capacity."

"That was horrendous how they treated him," he added. "They didn't treat him like a human being."

Miami Dolphins Release A Statement

Following his detainment, Hill's NFL team released the following statement:

“This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident about one block from the stadium and briefly detained by police. He has since been released. Several teammates saw the incident and stopped to offer support. Tyreek and all other players involved have safely arrived to the stadium and will be available for today’s game.”

Hill made an explosive play, catching an 80-yard touchdown pass that powered the Dolphins to a 20-17 victory over the Jaguars.

Tyreek Hill Breaks His Silence Following Arrest

The star wide receiver faced questions about the events that occurred just hours before kickoff, to which he said, “I don’t want to bring race into it, but sometimes it gets kind of iffy when you do. What if I wasn’t Tyreek Hill? Lord knows what that guy or guys would have done."

He added, "I was just making sure that I was doing what my uncle always told me to do whenever you’re in a situation like that: ‘Just listen, put your hands on the steering wheel and just listen.’”

Police Director Stephanie V. Daniels has since released a statement, revealing that they were reviewing the incident.
