The supermodel explained that she consulted about 32 different medical professionals, each with different techniques to treat her illness.

However, her frequent visits to the medics did not bear a positive fruit or assure her of finding a long-term solution to her illness, so she chose the holistic path.

Macpherson detailed this on the "Australia's Today" show as a response to critics expressing doubts about her treatment technique.

The model insisted that everyone with one or two things to say about her choice must have forgotten to read her memoir "Elle: Life, Lessons, and Learning to Trust Yourself."

Choosing to go holistic meant the supermodel ditched the mastectomy, radiation, chemotherapy, and hormone therapy, as she claimed the traditional methods were too extreme for her.

Macpherson's Diagnosis Was Kept Under Wraps

The 60-year-old confessed in her memoir that her ductal carcinoma in situ diagnosis, which she received after a lumpectomy about seven years ago, came as a rude shock to her. The Blast noted that the supermodel declared:

"It was a shock, it was unexpected, it was confusing, it was daunting in so many ways."

She continued that the diagnosis allowed her to explore her "inner sense to find a solution that worked" for her. "I realized I was going to need my own truth, my belief system, to support me through it. And that's what I did," she added.

Macpherson explained that it was a wonderful exercise to be true to herself and trust herself, "trusting the nature of my body and the course of action that I had chosen."

The Supermodel Detailed Her Holistic Approach

Macpherson explained that her approach to treatment was "an intuitive, heart-led, holistic approach," which she followed under the close guidance of her primary doctor, who was an integrative medicine expert.

"I came to the understanding that there was no sure thing and absolutely no guarantees. There was no right way, just the right way for me," she detailed in her memoir while warning readers that her choice is not for everyone.

The supermodel noted that rejecting the traditional approach was the hardest thing she had done in her life, but rejecting the leadings of her own inner sense "would have been even harder."

The celebrity understands that sometimes "an authentic choice from the heart makes no sense to others, but it doesn't have to." She continued:

"People thought I was crazy but I knew I had to make a choice that truly resonated with me. To me, that meant addressing emotional as well as physical factors associated with breast cancer. It was time for deep, inner reflection. And that took courage."

Macpherson's Family Had Mixed Opinions Concerning Her Treatment

Macpherson shared that her unique decision was met with mixed reactions from her loved ones, especially her sons, Flynn and Cy, and their father, her former partner Arki Busson.

She recalled Cy, her younger son, thought chemo kills, and he never wanted her to do it because "he thought that was a kiss of death." However, her older son, Flynn, who was more conventional, was not "in support of her choice at all," as she added:

"He is my son, though, and would support me through anything and love me through my choices, even if he didn't agree with them. My children were extremely supportive in their different ways but I knew they felt very scared."

She admitted that her ex-partner was really supportive. While he did not agree with Macpherson's approach, the model noted that he expressed pride in the courage she showed.

"Of course, he was scared because I'd decided not to take a conventional pharmaceutical route. He considered that extreme. I, on the other hand, felt the chemo and surgery route was extreme," the "Batman and Robin" actress stated in the memoir.

The 60-year-old then gave a quick situation report, stating that the lessons she learned during her treatment inspired her to inspire others, which is why she wrote the book.

"In traditional terms, they'd say I'm in clinical remission, but I would say I'm in utter wellness. And I am." she declared before adding:

"Truly, from every perspective, every blood test, every scan, every imaging test … but also emotionally, spiritually and mentally – not only physically. It's not only what your blood tests say, it's how and why you are living your life on all levels."

The actress concluded that she wanted to use her personal experience as a medium to "encourage others to follow their heart and give things a go. …follow their heart in whatever they're choosing to do, not just when in crisis but for decisions, big or small."
