It has been nearly two months since Shannen Doherty's death; however, tributes continue to pour in for the late actress, with the latest from her mom.
Rosa Doherty recently sat down with her daughter's best pal, Chris Cortazzo, on the latest episode of the "Let's Be Clear" podcast. The grieving mother poured her heart out while reflecting on the "Charmed" star's life and tragic death.
Shannen Doherty passed away at 53 on July 13 after a years-long battle with cancer. She reportedly wished to beat the disease and live an extraordinary life before death came knocking.
Shannen Doherty's Mom Reflects On Her Daughter's Passing With A Heavy Heart
Rosa and Cortazzo co-hosted Shannen's "Let's Be Clear" podcast for Monday, September 9's episode. The pair reflected on their treasured memories with the deceased and what she was like fighting against cancer.
"We're very fortunate that we have all [these memories], and it's like... it brings happiness, but it also brings... I can, at any moment, just burst out because it's such a loss," Rosa began, adding:
"It's such a loss. And, you know, I've said it before. A parent should never go, you know, last longer than a child. A child should never go before a parent."
"It's things we have no control of. My faith just tells me it's all in God's hands. And that's how Shannen felt, and that's how she lived her life. I was like, 'Aren't you afraid to do this?'" Rosa recalled, per PEOPLE, noting her daughter replied:
"'Whatever is meant to happen is going to happen. I just have to be smart and take the precautions that I need to take, and then it's in God's hands.'"
Doherty's Mom Recalls Her Years-long Cancer Battle
Rosa doubled down on faith being a significant part of her daughter's existence, especially during her battle with the terminal disease. "That's how she lived her life," she stressed, adding:
"With cancer, I mean, she fought this battle, and she fought it so hard, and she fought it, so much of that was with her faith. And she says, 'I just have faith that I'm doing what I need to do.'"
Shannen's best pal, Cortazzo, echoed similar sentiments about her battle with cancer. He claimed she was "such a warrior through it all," noting that "she fought so hard. In fact, I never thought she was gonna go."
Doherty's Best Pal Labeled Her A 'Different Breed'
While addressing her battle with cancer, Cortazzo revealed he was in awe of her resilience and positivity. "I just, I still can't believe it, but she never complained. She went to chemo and [would] be so sick," he recalled.
"She didn't want any sympathy from anyone. I've never seen anything like it in my entire life. She was a different breed," Cortazzo continued, describing his best pal as "one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen."
"Her face, just everything about her, was gorgeous. Like, beyond, beyond gorgeous," the actress's best pal declared. Rosa and Cortazzo's comments matched Shannen's thoughts before her death, as she wished to live an extraordinary life.
In a 2023 interview, Shannen stressed: "I'm not done with living. I'm not done with loving. I'm not done with creating. I'm not done with hopefully changing things for the better. I'm just not — I'm not done."
The 'Charmed' Star Wanted To Move To Italy
Weeks after her passing in July, The Blast reported that Doherty's "Charmed" castmates had reflected on her unfinished plans. Holly Marie Combs, Brian Krause, and Drew Fuller addressed their final thoughts on the "House of Halliwell" rewatch podcast.
During the tribute episode, Combs revealed Doherty did not believe she would die anytime soon. "It sounds terribly cliché until it happens to you, but you always think you have more time, and life changed on a dime," she explained.
Combs noted that Fuller had been in Italy when he received the call about Doherty's declining health. "She's definitely laughing at him panicking and getting on a plane for her because that was her dream," she continued, adding:
"That was her goal. That was her dream life. Her next trip was going to be to Italy, and she was considering moving to Italy."
Shannen Doherty's Pals Claim She Was Never A Victim
While reflecting on her life, Doherty's pals could not help but praise her resilience against cancer. Fuller noted she made the impossible seem possible with her perseverance, saying:
"She has this incredible ability not to ever be a victim, and you forgot it. When you're in her presence, she's not sick."
He shared more about her unfinished dreams, noting, "She has all these incredible plans, and we're traveling the world, and we're talking about this and that. Moving and building a new house in Tennessee and possibly going and building and living in Italy."
Rest in peace, Shannen Doherty.
