In true Selena style, the "Lose You to Love Me" singer didn’t shy away when a fan asked what advice she'd give her younger self. During the Q&A session at a virtual Rare Beauty event on Instagram on Wednesday, September 4, she opened up with some heartfelt words that definitely struck a chord with fans!

"Don't be so hard on myself," the actress told the audience, per People. "I was very hard on myself. If the teacher scolded me for talking too much I'd go home and think about it all day. If I had a crush on a boy and he asked a girl out in front of me, I'd be a wreck forever."

"I was too hard on myself," Selena added. "I didn't think I was enough or sometimes I didn't think I fit in and ultimately you're exactly who you are made to be."

When asked how she’s managed to overcome those tough emotions over the years, Selena didn’t hold back.

"This sounds maybe a little silly but just actually taking a step away and just look around, you know?" she said. "Like, for example at home I like to just go and sit outside and put my feet in the grass and sit there and maybe listen to some music and I just try to find things that really ground me."

"I love fresh foods and stuff. I'm starting to get into that kind of because of my boyfriend," Selena added of Benny Blanco, whose relationship was publicly confirmed in December 2023. "Just being in the garden and picking food that I'm going to be able to cook with. It sounds so silly and minuscule but the older you get the more that you realize that it's okay to just be simple and have simplicity."

The former Disney star also dished on one of the couple's go-to meals in the kitchen, revealing that cooking has become a bonding activity for them.

"One of the things I'm doing, for example, is we're making a bunch of tamales, which is one of my favorites, and we're going to be giving them to a bunch of random friends," Selena said at the Q&A.

She even mentioned how they love sharing their culinary creations with friends and family, turning their passion for food into a fun, social experience. "We're just gonna randomly do that one day and that's a long process but it's so fun," the actress added. "We're gonna listen to music and have a drink and make tamales and go give it to our friends."

Joining an exclusive group of women, Selena’s got some familiar company—her longtime friend Taylor Swift. But while Swift's billions come mostly from her chart-topping music and epic tours, Selena’s wealth is a mix of her acting, singing, savvy business moves, and massive social media clout.

“Selena is not just a pop star,” Stacy Jones, founder and chief executive officer of Hollywood Branded, a Los Angeles-based branding agency, said, per Bloomberg. “She’s a multifaceted businesswoman with diverse income streams contributing to her impressive net worth.”
