Reports have emerged that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's buying their huge Beverly Hills mansion was the "Argo" star's idea after their marriage.

The duo, who are currently in talks to finalize their divorce, have still been unable to sell the $68 million mansion despite it being on the market for weeks.

Neither Ben Affleck nor Jennifer Lopez is seeking spousal support, but they are expected to divide any joint earnings made during their marriage.

Before Lopez and Affleck's divorce news, the duo had been trying to sell off their massive marital home in Beverly Hills.

The luxurious property was purchased in May 2023 and was listed on the market in July 2024 for $68 million.

While it is unclear when a sale will finally occur, sources have revealed that buying the house in the first place was not Lopez's idea, despite her investing a lot of time in searching for one at the time.

"The $68 million mansion was Ben's idea," explained an insider about the marital home purchase, per People Magazine. Apparently, Lopez prefers the "romantic, Spanish, European vibe," which made choosing the Beverly Hills mansion a "major compromise for her."

Despite the purchase of the house being Affleck's idea, he wasted no time moving out amid his marital trouble with Lopez.

In May, he rented a $100k per month residence two blocks away from his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, with whom he shares three children: Violet, Fin, and Samuel.

His decision to stay in that area was not surprising, as the actor has always prioritized his children.

Affleck has since closed a deal on a new bachelor pad for himself, which was said to have cost him $20.5 million.

According to People, he has started "slowly moving into his new home" and is moving on well with his life.

A source shared about Affleck: "He's where he wants to be: close to his kids and in a neighborhood that he loves. "

The source adds, "He enjoys working too, and is very focused on the positives."

Lopez and Affleck are currently amid talks to finalize their divorce after the "Atlas" star filed without using a lawyer on August 20.

The duo is expected to discuss how they intend to divide their properties, which reportedly include whatever they earned during their marriage.

"They've been together for two years, and whatever they have earned during those two years is community [property], which means that it will be equally divided if they earned anything."

Matrimonial partner at Blank Rome LLP, Marilyn Chinitz, told People.

Though it's unclear what will be classified as community property for the duo, reports suggest that earnings from movies they starred in or produced together or separately may be included. Lopez's income from other ventures, like her low-calorie alcohol brand Delola, could also be part of the discussion.

The Ex-Couple Isn't Interested In Spousal Support

One thing is certain: there will be no issue of spousal support for either Lopez or Affleck, as her divorce filing made it clear that neither party is seeking it.

However, the former couple did not have a prenup, a decision many believe could be a costly mistake and potentially lead to an ugly divorce.

That remains to be seen, although the duo have enlisted the services of high-powered divorce attorney Laura Wasser to meditate over their issues. Wasser previously worked with stars such as Kim Kardashian and Kevin Costner.

Still, the timeline for finalizing the divorce is unknown, but the process could be expedited if Lopez and Affleck reach an agreement on all matters quickly. It also helps that Lopez and Affleck did not bear kids for each other during the relationship, which rules out issues with custody arrangements.
