The mayor believes the Yonkers Raceway is a good location for the memorial — because it is the city’s largest outdoor venue. According to reports, the mayor wants to “ease the burden” for the family, and holding the event nearby will facilitate making it easier.
The Yonkers Raceway is a horse racing facility that holds a seating capacity of 7,500 but is under the state’s COVID-19 guidelines which limit the number of seats to 20 percent.
But, the city has let the family know the facility is open if they choose to use it.

Incredibly, the city is also considering renaming a street after the legendary rapper, despite his struggles with substance abuse and legal issues.
Regardless of his personal problems, DMX stayed connected to his hometown and constantly did charity work in the area, and supported the youth in his community. Plus, the city is also considering erecting a statue in his honor, which would be a landmark for people to visit when they visit the area.
Either way, Mayor Spanos would like to honor DMX like another famous Yonkers native — Ella Fitzgerald — with some sort of recognition.
There’s More…
As we reported, DMX died at the age of 50 just days after suffering a massive heart attack following a drug overdose.
The ‘Ruff Ryders Anthem’ rapper was in a coma, on life support, for several days after being resuscitated three different times while fighting for his life. According to reports, the legendary rapper had recently fallen off of the wagon and had OD’d the night he collapsed.
Thousands of fans and friends showed up at the hospital in White Plains, New York to pay respect to the rapper. He is survived by his fiancee, mother, and fifteen children. It appears the memorial will be an even larger event.
