Formula 1 is returning to the streets of Las Vegas in November and now is the time to start planning if you intend to go.

With last year being the first year for F1 in Vegas, there were many learning curves. According to Racer.com, Emily Prazer, Chief Commercial Officer for F1 and Las Vegas Grand Prix said that they are taking the "lessons we learned and the data we learned" from last year's event when approaching this year's marketing.

"Last year, we obviously did the launch party a year before, or more than a year before. And we were penetrating marketing and informing everybody what this race was going to be, because it was a year one event," she said. "We spent unnecessary amounts of money on marketing last year to kind of get that hype and get everything going, which I think served its purpose. But when we did the post-race analysis, we realized that the majority of activity happened from 100 days onwards."

She continued to explain that they "didn't do much really at the beginning of this year."

"We are F1, and we felt that we were sucking the life out of the American market a bit with everything we were doing. So tactically, we said 'enough with talking about this from January 1, let's be a lot more thoughtful and strategic and take the lessons we learned and the data we learned,'" she said. "So we really only started marketing with 100 days to go."

What's New This Year For F1 In Vegas?

There are a few changes to this year's event from last year.

One big addition is the Ferrari Challenge, which is a support race. The change came to be after last year's logistical challenges that included an incident involving a damaged car.

"We're adding Ferrari Challenge. So that will be coming, we're super excited about it," Prazer said, according to Athlon Sports. "We took on the feedback last year of not having a support race. Logistics last year were our number one concern, which again I think everyone understood. Ferrari also brings a crowd that loves Las Vegas as you'd expect. So it's a natural one for us to go after, and they've been incredible partners."

Another new exciting addition will be an ice rink on the Paddock Club's roof, which is a first for any F1 event.

"So we're putting an ice rink on the roof of the Paddock Club in Vegas this year," Prazer said. "You would never see us do that anywhere else. But the intent is like, 'how do we create more of an entertainment proposition?'"

There Will Also Be A Free F1 Festival

Also new this year is a free F1 Festival on Friday and Saturday.

The festival is being added to help keep the energy up and for anyone who's not able to attend the races but wants to enjoy some F1 fun in the bustling city.

"Tickets are taken, it's a capacity of 30,000 per day," Prazer said. "Vegas is notorious that during major events, people flood there anyway. If you speak to anyone from Vegas, the casinos as well, it's great that the  Super Bowl was there, but they're that busy during the Super Bowl anyway, so we wanted to take the spirit of that and have the city be as busy as possible if people aren't necessarily coming to the Grand Prix."

The festival will feature display cars, driver Q&As, merchandise for sale, and more.

Year One In Vegas Had Good And Bad Moments

Year one in Vegas did not go off without a hitch.

There were some issues - the first practice on opening night was canceled after only nine minutes, drivers openly voiced their opinions on the track, and the city was turned upside down for months to prepare for and then break down the event.

Even with the rough patches, F1 brought more than 315,000 spectators to Sin City and right after the event, estimated an economic impact of $1.2 billion to Vegas.

Given it was just the first year in Vegas, many fans are hopeful that this year's event is even better than the last.

While Max Verstappen didn't hold back his dislike for Vegas when the event began, his tune changed when he got his 18th win of the season.

"Viva Las Vegas! Viva Las Vegas!" he said after he crossed under the checkered flag. He was clearly unhappy about how things began, but he raced in an Elvis-inspired fire suit and alls well that ends well.

"I hope everyone enjoyed it, we definitely did," he said. "Excited to come back here next year and try to do something similar. It was a fun race. I enjoyed it."
