Kate Winslet's Husband Saved Her And Her Kids From A House Fire
Winslet, who is very private about her marriage and kids, had a discussion about how she fell for Smith during an interview with The Telegraph.
Winslet revealed that she had met Smith a few days before he saved her and her kids, Mia and Joe, from a house fire.
The "Titanic" star and her children were staying on Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands when their home was caught up in a storm and struck by lightning.
It was Scott who helped them escape from the resulting fire that engulfed their home.
She said, "It was very clear to me that this was the person I was supposed to follow through life. And I still feel exactly that way now."
Twelve years later, Winslet and Scott are happy and have a son together. They named him Bear Blaze, which is a reference to the fire he saved her from.
The Actress Gushed About How Wonderful Life Is With Edward Smith
During the interview, Winslet praised her husband and how he treats their family.
She said, "He looks after everybody. He's wonderful. We literally do life together; we really do. He's always jumped from project to project, and when I met him, he was setting up a music festival."
Winslet also revealed that she had no idea Smith's surname used to be Rocknroll and that it's ironic because of his soft nature.
She said, "When someone told me, I thought, that's brilliant, because the funny thing is, he's not remotely rock and roll. He's Mr Vegan Yoga. He's just the life and soul."
Winslet further explained that she and Smith are "real-life optimists" in everything they do alone and together.
She added, "When you live with someone who wakes up, opens the curtains, and says, 'Hello, the world!' you just think, yes, I am going to sign up for life."
Kate Winslet Is Promoting Her New Film 'Lee'
Aside from spending time with her husband and kids, Winslet has been busy promoting her new film "Lee."
The biopic follows the life and experiences of Lee Miller, the famous model who transitioned into a World War II photographer, and Winslet plays the lead role.
Winslet's performance as Miller is highly anticipated, as she portrays a woman who defied society's conventions to become a historical figure.
Reports have also spread that the "Titanic" star was so determined to finish the film that she even paid crew salaries by herself.
Kate Winslet Suffered Severe Injuries On The Set Of The Film
Winslet and film producer Kate Solomon recently had an interview with Vogue about the film. During their discussion, the two women shared insight into how they made the movie, including the injuries Winslet suffered and how she paid for crew salaries at some point.
On the very first day of filming, Winslet was in rehearsals for a scene where her character Lee ran down the streets of the French city Saint-Malo while it suffered heavy bombardment in 1944. However, filming the scene was just as dangerous because she suffered severe injuries.
As she rehearsed the run, Winslet slipped and seriously injured her back. She said, "I had three massive hematomas on my spine, huge.
I could barely stand up." Despite her injuries and body pain, the film star stuck to the filming schedule as she recovered.
Winslet and Solomon also discussed her paying crew salaries, which they said was necessary because of the movie's "precarious" financing. As such, during the pre-production period, Winslet "personally covered two weeks of wages to keep things going."
Kate Winslet Praises Young Stars For Speaking Out Against Fat-Shaming
Winslet recently expressed her support for young stars who oppose fat-shaming and use their voices in the entertainment industry.
During an appearance on "The Today Show," host Hoda Kotb labeled Winslet a "champion for women." However, Kotb noted, "But you didn't lead your career that way all the time because you were like a lot of young actresses."
Winslet responded: "It's really interesting how much it has changed. And I think about the moments I did have to kind of say, 'Well look, I'm going to be myself. And I have curves. And this is who I am.'"
She highlighted the positive shift in the industry, crediting the empowerment of young women.
"That has changed. And it's changed because young women now, they're born with a voice," Winslet stated.
"They have a voice, they're learning how to hang on to it, they stand up for themselves. They know that they matter. They count for something. They're great together," Winslet continued. "It's an exciting time, I think, for younger actresses to be coming into an industry like this one, which is huge. But to feel held, supported, nurtured, it's changed so much. It's wonderful."
