A video of Camila Cabello singing Sabrina Carpenter’s "Espresso," from her new album "Short n' Sweet," has gone viral.
Carpenter's album allegedly delves into a rocky, on-again, off-again love triangle between herself, Shawn Mendes, and Cabello. Specifically, the music video for "Taste," which features "Wednesday" star Jenna Ortega, seemingly alludes to Mendes and Cabello as Ortega’s appearance bears a striking resemblance to Cabello, while her on-screen boyfriend closely resembles Mendes.
As the news of Sabrina Carpenter's love triangle with Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello resurfaces, a video of Cabello singing Carpenter's hit song, "Espresso," is going viral.
Inside The Love Triangle Between Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, And Sabrina Carpenter
Mendes and Cabello first sparked rumors of a romance in 2015 when they released their hit single “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” Four years later, they confirmed their relationship.
In November 2021, however, Mendes and Cabello announced their breakup but emphasized that they remained friends. Rumors then circulated that the "Mercy" singer was dating fellow musician Sabrina Carpenter. While the relationship was not confirmed, Us Weekly obtained pictures of Mendes and Carpenter walking around LA, seemingly on a date.
A few weeks later, they were spotted leaving Miley Cyrus's album release party together, but Mendes later released a statement, telling RTL Boulevard, “We are not dating.”
Sabrina Carpenter Releases 'Short n' Sweet' Which Seemingly References The Love Triangle
There has been speculation that "Coincidence," off of Sabrina Carpenter's latest album, is about Shawn Mendes pursuing Camila Cabello while he was with Carpenter:
"Last week, you didn't have any doubts
This week, you're holding space for her tongue in your mouth
Now shе's sendin' you some pictures wеarin' less and less
Tryna turn the past into the present tense, huh
Suckin' up to all of your mutual friends"
Fans have also pointed out that the lyrics of "Dumb & Poetic?" seem fishy.
"You're so dumb and poetic
It's just what I fall for, I like the aesthetic
Every self-help book, you've already read it
Cherry-pick lines like they're words you invented
Gold star for highbrow manipulation
And 'love everyone' is your favourite quotation
Try to come off like you're soft and well-spoken
Jack off to lyrics by Leonard Cohen"
As the drama unfolds, Capital stirred things up by asking Camila Cabello to complete the lyrics of Sabrina Carpenter's song "Espresso" during a recent interview.
Camila Cabello Sings Sabrina Carpenter's 'Espresso'
Now that the messy love triangle news has resurfaced, a video of Camila Cabello singing Sabrina Carpenter's song is going viral. Capital shared a video on Thursday of Cabello singing the famous lyrics, "I'm working late, cause I'm a singer," from Carpenter's "Espresso," but fans couldn't help but point out the timing of it.
"Social media manager said I’m either getting a raise or fired but today’s the day," one user wrote.
"THISSSS IS CRAZY!?!?!" another said.
"oh, capital, this is criminal. I love it," a third commented.
The clip was part of Capital FM’s “Finish the Lyric” game, where she challenged her musical knowledge by completing lyrics to various songs.
TikTok Users Go Wild Over Capital's Interview
The video immediately went viral, gaining over 336k likes, 48.1k reshares, and nearly 6k comments.
"THERE. IS. NO. WAY," one social media user said.
"HEY SO THIS IS INSANE," another commented.
"I thought the algorithm was crazy, but no, it's Capital being messy," a third expressed as another wrote, "My jaw is on the floor."
Camila Cabello Adds Fuel To The Fire
Cabello also appeared to poke at the rumors further by posting a TikTok where she sings along to her own song, “June Gloom.”
The track includes the lyrics: “She’s cool, I heard/ Won’t act surprised, I saw the pictures/ […] If she’s so amazing, why are you on this side of town? / If you like her so much, what are you here trying to find out?”
Fans initially thought the track reflected Cabello’s feelings about an ex, presumably Shawn Mendes, following their second breakup. However, with the release of Sabrina Carpenter’s new "Taste" video, there’s growing speculation that Cabello’s song might actually be about Carpenter.
For what it's worth, none of this has been confirmed by Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, or Shawn Mendes.
