Demi Lovato has always been about owning experiences and taking responsibilities for the choices she makes and with every passing day, she's doing justice to that.

The former actress turned singer shocked her fans recently with the tease of her new music video for her single "Dancing With The Devil."

The song, lyrics and video featured many happenings in her life and the highlight of it all, was the recall of the heart-wrenching 'overdose' experience that she went through in 2018.

Aside from the literal meaning, Lovato's song, which debuted on March 16, 2021 as an opening act at the South West Film Festival (SXSW,) gave millions of fans a lot to think about. 

The music video premiered at 11:45 P.M. ET on Thursday night. In the tease clip shared on Lovato's Instagram page, showed the singer hooked to an oxygen machine on a hospital bed with wires running through her nose. 

The scene showed her in a hospital gown portraying the overdose scene as she sang the lyrics of the song with tears in her eyes. "Good Morning America" called the video "raw and real."

The Lyrics

Lovato's song pointed to a lot of events in her life, but the one that fans were really captivated by, was the one that put her in a near-death experience. The singer, who began her career as a child star on "Barney & Friends," went on to star in other amazing series and eventually found her calling with music. 

The lyrics of her new song read; "Praying for better days to come/ Could you please forgive me Lord, I'm sorry for dancing with the devil."

Social media users have begun to weigh in on the song and video, calling it incredible and brave. Many of the star's fans also spoke about how proud they are of her.

The Real Experience

According to BBC News,Lovato revealed that she after she was hospitalized from the overdose in 2018, the doctors told her that she was minutes away from being pronounced dead. 

She also revealed that she went through three stroke phases and heart attack before the doctors could finally stabilize her. 

The effect of the accident has now left the "Ok Not To Be Ok" singer with a brain damage. She revealed that she still has blurry visions and cannot drive a car, to keep her from getting involved in an accident.

Recently, Lovato opened up about being 'date raped' while she was filming with Disney. 

She noted that the abuser invited her to hang out and forced himself on her, even when she said it was her first time. After the hurtful act, she said that he left her for dead. 

When she woke up in the hospital, she was asked if it was a consensual sex, and her answer was years. However, weeks after her overdose experience, she realized that she never consented to any form of sexual activity.
