Adam Sandler Teases Travis Kelce's Role In 'Happy Gilmore 2'

As the sequel to the 1996 comedy "Happy Gilmore" prepares to start filming in New Jersey, Adam Sandler has hinted that it will feature a roster of professional golfers along with some unexpected cameos--including Travis Kelce.

Sandler is returning as both the lead actor and co-writer for the sequel, working alongside Tim Herlihy. Both have been putting in a lot of effort on the script, the "Grown-Ups" star said.

On Wednesday, Adam Sandler appeared on Travis Kelce's podcast, "New Heights," which he hosts alongside his brother, Jason Kelce, to chat about "Happy Gilmore 2."

Adam Sandler appeared on the season 3 premiere of "New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce," where he discussed the upcoming sequel and Kelce's possible role.

“The whole thing was to get to hang out with Kelce. That’s why we put it together,” Sandler joked. “We’re going there (to New Jersey to film the movie). Travis, by the way, thank you, I heard you talking about (the movie) on your show, you guys."

“We were talking about you playing my son while we were writing it, literally, like six months ago. We were like, imagine if Travis was my first baby, how funny that would be. Just a bad a--."

While he didn't confirm if that was still the case, Sandler did reveal that Kelce will be doing a scene "with so many great golfers," which he says is "gonna be amazing."

"You're gonna be funny as hell," Sandler said on the podcast.

Travis Kelce is already gearing up for his role in the upcoming sequel. "I think I've got the swing down," he said, noting that he went out to practice his golf swing immediately after Sandler announced last week on "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" that the NFL tight end would be featured in the "Happy Gilmore" sequel.

“I was like, man you know what, I’ve just got to do a ceremonial one,” Kelce said. “And I ripped it. It felt so good, dude.”

Regarding the plot of the new movie, Sandler revealed that it "picks up from an older guy who played golf a long time. Some stuff goes on in his life, and he's different — he's a bit of a mess. And then we try to get his life cooking again."

Kelce responded, "We got all the trust in the world you're going to bring Happy back and make him lovable again," expressing confidence in the film’s direction.

Last week, Sandler confirmed that Kelce will have a cameo in the upcoming sequel, but that's not all he revealed. The actor also updated on the current status of production and shared what fans can expect.

“We’re going to do ‘Happy Gilmore,’ thank you. This is happening,” Sandler said on the late-night talk show. “We’re getting ready to shoot it in New Jersey. We start in a couple of weeks. It’s good. We worked hard on the script. We didn’t want to let anybody down."

"People have been asking me for a long time. We’re really excited about it," he continued. "So many of the golfers are being nice and will be a part of it.”

Earlier this year, the "Murder Mystery" actor talked with People Magazine, where he expressed his excitement for finally moving forward with a "Happy Gilmore" sequel.

"We worked hard trying to write something that we thought people would have a good time with, and I'm more than excited, probably the most excited I've been in many years to shoot something," he said.

Sandler also spoke to IndieWire, revealing that he will be working alongside Josh Safdie, who will be directing the sequel.

“He was very hands-on,” Sandler told the outlet. “Right when he became a part of it, he had thought after thought, and I thought I was just going to do a standard stand-up special. I had an act that I’ve been working on and all my stuff [prepped], and then Josh came up with some ideas that were different than that.”

At this time, there is no release date for "Happy Gilmore 2."
