Mariah Carey is being accused of neglecting her late sister, Alison Carey, who had allegedly hoped to mend their broken relationship.
A friend, Alison, recently came forward to reveal the heartbreaking dying wish she had while claiming that the legendary singer didn't "care" enough to reach out to her dying family member.
Alison Carey had a long battle with drug addiction, and Mariah Carey noted in her memoir that she had to cut her off so as not to become "an enabler."
Mariah Carey's Late Sister's Dying Wish Revealed
According to the Daily Mail, Alison's friend and healthcare proxy, David Baker, disclosed that her dying wish was to reunite with her estranged famous sister. However, Mariah didn't check on her all through her time in hospice care at her apartment in the small town of Coxsackie, New York.
"Alison was hurt by the way she was treated by her mother and Mariah, but she always had mixed feelings about her mother," Baker told the news outlet. "But I know it was her dying wish if she could've at least had a conversation with Mariah."
Baker noted that the "All I Want For Christmas Is You" hitmaker neither called nor visited Alison, but Alison's four adult children came to visit her.
It comes after Mariah, who lost her mother Patricia on the same day as Alison, shared a statement with People magazine on the death of both women, saying, "My heart is broken that I've lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day."
She noted that she felt "blessed" that she was able to "spend the last week" with her mother before her passing, adding that she appreciated "everyone's love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time."
Alison Carey's Friend Claims Her Famous Sister Never Cared
Alison's long-time pal and healthcare assistant blasted Mariah for seemingly neglecting her sister, as well as the statement she released after her death.
"It was awful because it was just all about her," Baker said. "In her eyes, it's all about Mariah and never anyone else."
"If she would've cared about her, she would've talked to Alison when she knew she was dying. It's how Mariah has been for a very long time. She will do anything to get attention and is always looking for publicity," he added.
Alison Carey's Top Priority Was Making Amends With Her Sister
Baker further explained that Alison was forthcoming with her struggles, but making amends with her family, especially Mariah, was her topmost priority while she laid waste on her deathbed.
"[Alison] was a very intelligent and very sensitive person who had a really rough time in her life," Baker said. "She had a lot of obstacles in her life starting from when she was very young, and I don't think most people could go through something like that and not be affected."
"[Mariah] called her an ex-sister, which was a nasty thing to say, and [Alison] never got over that. She continued to dismiss her as if there was something she could do to change that. No matter what, she will always be her sister," he shared.
Mariah Carey Once Labeled Alison Her 'Ex-Sister'
The "Emotions" singer has made no secret of her severed ties with Alison, who battled substance abuse for years.
In her 2020 memoir, "The Meaning of Mariah Carey," the singer called Alison her "ex-sister" and noted that Alison tried to get her to use drugs and had "inflicted [her] with third-degree burns" before she became a teenager.
"When I was 12 years old, my sister drugged me with Valium, offered me a pinky nail full of cocaine ... and tried to sell me out to a pimp," Mariah wrote in her memoir. "Something in me was arrested by all that trauma. That is why I often say I'm eternally 12. I am still struggling through that time."
Mariah said she finally decided to remove Alison from her life so as not to be "an enabler."
Alison Carey Was Heartbroken By Mariah Carey's Behavior
According to the news outlet, Baker went further to disclose that Mariah's severed ties with Alison left her hurt and feeling heartbroken in her final days.
"It stung because Mariah called Alison her ex-sister," Baker told the Daily Mail. "She used to babysit and take care of Mariah. When that came out, she couldn't believe that Mariah had done that because she already was not talking to her, but then she kicks Alison in the teeth while she was already down."
Allison's cause of death remains difficult to ascertain, but Baker shared on Tuesday that it wasn't from cancer or HIV, only mentioning that she passed away due to "internal organ failure."
Before her death, she was recovering from her addiction problems, with Baker noting that she had been sober for more than three years, but her health continued to decline.
