The presidential race intensified with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. claiming he was not the only one moving to Donald Trump's corner.
The former presidential candidate recently defended his decision to quit the election battle and support his ex-competitor. He implied other Democrats had similar thoughts and would soon be unveiled as Trump supporters.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s bipartisanship claims come at the heels of his family's scathing disapproval of his union with Donald Trump. Things are so heated the 70-year-old's marriage may reportedly be at stake.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Raves About Donald Trump's Unexpected Allies
During a recent interview with "Fox News Sunday," RFK Jr. doubled down on his support of Trump after his recent endorsement of the Republican. He declared he would publicly campaign for the presidential nominee in the November elections.
Kennedy Jr. also implied he wasn't the only one switching to Trump's team after host Shannon Bream shared a news excerpt about him. The article noted that RFK Jr. shouldn't be involved with the Republican party, especially while campaigning on environmental issues.
He seemingly defended his decision by claiming prominent Democrats plan to publicly voice their support for Trump. TMZ noted he refused to share the identities of these figures; however, the bipartisan claims could spell trouble for Kamala Harris' campaign.
The Kennedy Family Do Not Support Trump
Following RFK Jr.'s public endorsement of Trump, The Blast reported that he faced severe backlash from fans and the Kennedy family. The politician's relatives slammed his decision to support the Republican presidential candidate in a joint statement.
Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Courtney Kennedy, Kerry Kennedy, Chris Kennedy, and Rory Kennedy declared: "We want an America filled with hope and bound together by a shared vision of a brighter future, a future defined by individual freedom, economic promise, and national pride."
The Kennedy family supported Harris and her running mate Tim Walz while bashing RFK Jr.'s decision as a "betrayal of the value" that their late father and clan deeply treasured. They described his actions as a "sad ending to a sad story."
Why Did Kennedy Jr. Suspend His Campaign?
Kennedy Jr. announced his decision to suspend his presidential campaign last Thursday in Arizona. He explained that he no longer believed he had a "realistic path of electoral victory in the face of this relentless, systematic censorship and media control."
RFK Jr. stressed that he could not continue to subject his staff and volunteers to long working hours, nor could he ask for more donations without a clear path to victory. On that note, he suspended his campaign and declared his support for Trump.
His wife, Cheryl Hines, echoed similar sentiments about his decision in a lengthy statement on X. However, she surprisingly didn't share her support for Trump's campaign.
Cheryl Hines Issued Her Statement Without Supporting Donald Trump
Hines' statement began, "The decision has been made to suspend my husband's, Robert Kennedy Jr.'s, presidency, and I'd like to extend a sincere, deeply heartfelt thank you to every person who has worked so tirelessly and lovingly on his campaign."
She applauded everyone involved in Kennedy Jr.'s campaign, claiming his team had "gathered over a million signatures, more than any candidate in history." Hines noted they also achieved ballot access across the country despite the lawsuits to keep her husband's name off the ballot.
"I deeply respect the decision Bobby made to run on the principle of unity. Over the last year and a half, I have met some extraordinary people from all parties," Hines continued. Her message ended with gratitude for their presidential journey but zero mentions of RFK Jr.'s support for Trump.
Is Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s Marriage On The Rocks?
Following Hines's statement, TMZ reported that she faced backlash over her husband's endorsement of Trump's campaign. Critics bashed her silence, with one commenter writing:
"Your legacy is on the line. If you don't say anything, you will be remembered for supporting Trump."
The backlash sparked by his decision wasn't lost on Kennedy Jr., who addressed the situation during his appearance on FOX News. He noted his decision had caused a rift in his family but didn't mention his marriage to Hines.
It was no secret that Hines wasn't a Trump supporter, once describing the politician as "ridiculous and disrespectful." When asked what her reaction would be if RFK Jr. accepted a cabinet position with Trump, she noted it would be a significant test of their marriage.
Will Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s endorsement of Donald Trump cause a rift in his marriage, or will he and Cheryl Hines survive this test?
